POSITION SUMMARY:
The Training and Development Specialist will create, develop and facilitate training and development programs for employees and leadership teams. You will conduct needs assessments, design, develop and deliver training materials, job aids, learning maps, and other dynamic and interactive learning solutions in consultation with cross functional stakeholders in the organization. Some travel to job sites or offices will be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct the needs analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation of internal courses.
- Write concise, creative, and effective instruction.
- Prepare and update course materials as needed (e.g. PPTs, training manuals, facilitator guides, storyboards, etc.).
- Program administration, including determining and developing resources and coordination of logistics (i.e., venues, equipment, materials).
- Ensure that learning solutions incorporate best practices in adult learning theory.
- Work directly with technical subject matter experts, key stakeholders and project teams to capture course-specific knowledge.
- Maintaining and updating internal records management database and employee training records, as a lead administrator of the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Identify and select vendors for third-party training options.
- Tracking and reporting on training outcomes.
- Actively participate in opportunities to upgrade or maintain educational and adult learning skills.
- Remaining current with trends and technology related to learning and Learning Management Systems.
- Evaluate effectiveness of training and development programs through assessments, surveys, feedback and learning outcomes and utilize data to continuously improve and support strategic objectives
- Partner with Subject Matter Experts to coordinate and create training sessions – research potential topics as needed
- Maintain records and data of all training and development sessions
- Prepare and implements training budget
- Support other assigned functions and other ad hoc HR projects
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 5-7 years of related experience is required
- Bachelor’s degree in either education, adult learning, communications, business or other related degree is required
- Experience with evaluating, developing and facilitating, and delivering technical and non-technical training course materials, including leadership, functional and soft skills training is required
- Experience in the development of e-learning courses and the delivery of courses using videoconferencing, virtual classroom, etc. is required
- Demonstrated understanding of the ADDIE training model
- Experience with competency program development
- Demonstrated working experience working with Learning Management Systems and training creation platforms (e.g., Articulate 360, Cornerstone, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel, SharePoint)
- Experience in the industrial construction or energy industry is an asset
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Highly organized with effective time management skill
- Strong public speaking and facilitation skills
- Ability to successfully engage and work with employees all around the company at different levels, in different disciplines, and with different interpersonal styles
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively with various teams
- Ability to travel 25% of the time
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- When visiting jobsites, the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
- This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
