Cree Language Instruction

First Nations University of Canada invites applications for a three-year term position in Cree language instruction at the FNUniv Regina campus.

The Organization:
First Nations University of Canada mission is to enhance the quality life, and to preserve, protect, and interpret the history, language, culture, and artistic heritage of First Nations. The University will acquire and expand its base of knowledge and understanding in the best interests of First Nations and for the benefit of society by providing opportunities of quality bi-lingual and bi-cultural education under the mandate and control of the First Nations of Saskatchewan. The First Nations University of Canada is a First nations-controlled university-college that provides educational opportunities to both First-Nations and non-First Nations students selected from a provincial, national, and international base. First Nations University is a federated college of the University of Regina, and its academic programs are accredited through that institution.

The successful candidate will teach courses pertinent to the specific language minor/major and contribute to the general Language Education programs. Applicants should have an interest in Indigenous protocols and working with Elders and communities. The position will have a 3/2 teaching allocation as well as participation in university committee service.

The successful candidate will ideally have a PhD, but consideration will be given to those with a Master’s degree and equivalent experience in language instruction (an education background is a serious plus). Language skills should include both oracy and literacy and may also include expertise in storytelling and literature, language and culture history, translation and interpretation, and language teaching techniques. For instance, the successful candidate should be able to teach as many of our Cree courses as possible, but also potentially the INDL 241 (Cree Literature in Translation), INDG 208, LING 327, etc.
