Legal Assistant - Real Estate
Salary depending on experience + Full Health, Dental, Extended Benefits + 2 weeks vacation
We are a professional boutique law firm seeking a real estate legal assistant to support our senior partner for the most part, with support for 1-2 other lawyers as needed with a busy commercial real estate practice. We are an established firm with a fun and hardworking atmosphere. There are 2 partners, one associate lawyer, a senior law clerk and a junior clerk.
This role is specifically to provide experienced support to our senior partner. Material experience as a dedicated law clerk or legal assistant is required.
The ideal candidate will have the ability and willingness to take active interest in the overall practice of the firm. RESPONSIBILITIES
· Handle the documentation of transactions (including purchase, sale, mortgage, refinance) both residential and commercial
· Search title and read title searches, and prepare documents in Teraview (Teraview skills required)
· Prepare requisition letters and respond to same
· Communicate with mortgage brokers and/or banking institutions with respect to mortgages and refinancing files
· Communicate with clients, partners, peers, and opposing counsel in a clear, prompt, and professional manner
· Monitor and set up reminders of deadlines, manage calendar and scheduling
· Organize and maintain client files; keep up to date on filing, opening and closing files, vaulting closed files
· Drafting correspondence and legal documents
· Preparing reporting letters and accounts
· Typing of dictation, general administrative and office duties as required
· Transaction related bookkeeping in Cosmolex, transactional banking and related administration
QUALIFICATIONS
· 3-4 years’ experience +
· Post-secondary education in related field - law clerk diploma an asset
· Proficient with Teraview, Legal accounting software, MS Outlook, MS Office suite
· Experienced with dicta transcription
· Able to multi-task and work in high pressure environment and meet competing short term deadlines
· Take initiative and be proactive
· Ability to work with sensitive and confidential materials with discretion
· Very organized with a high attention to detail
· Professional communication skills. Very strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
· Able to work independently as well as be a team player
· Dedicated to client service
