Do you enjoy working with youth and want to make a difference in the lives of those recovering from substance misuse and abuse? The Protection of Children Abusing Drugs (PChAD) program in Edmonton is looking for a skilled, empathic, energetic Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join our multidisciplinary team. The RPN provides a range of patient care services specific to the secure, involuntary environment of the PChAD Program. This position requires an independent individual comfortable with managing the sole nursing role on a shift in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. The nurse books and facilitates clinics for the consulting psychiatrist, follows up with families to explain assessment outcomes, obtains consent regarding medication and provides education. The nurse interprets medical information; implements prescribed interventions and performs nursing interventions. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the nurse plays a key role in the support of an integrated and holistic approach to the patient’s health care, health promotion, and health maintenance requirements while demonstrating professionalism in all aspects of practice. The RPN will also make recommendations to the treatment team for health services post-discharge. Excellent decision-making skills, flexibility, and client engagement and rapport building skills are essential to success in this role. The RPN will also provide consultative services as needed to the 4 bed, voluntary Youth Detoxification and Stabilization Treatment Program and the 8 bed, voluntary Recovery Treatment Program. Some evening and weekend work is required, as per the rotation and as this is a new position, there is an opportunity for the RPN to influence the assessment and service delivery model within the Protective Safe House.

You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Current registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta is required. NVCI is required. A working knowledge of the DSM 5, Mental Health Act, Mental Status Assessment and Psychotropic medications are required. Two years of clinical work with adolescents is required. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. By applying on this posting, if you are the successful candidate, you will transition to Recovery Alberta. In accordance with the transition letter of understanding with UNA, current employees under the UNA Collective Agreement who accept an employment offer, issued after July 1, 2024, will not have any rights under Article 15: Layoff and Recall.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with psychiatric nursing experience. An excellent understanding of adolescent development is essential to success.
