Title: CPA CFO – Real Estate Investment

Position status: Full time, Permanent
Location: Montreal, QC (not a remote role)
Working hours: 9AM-5PM

Report to the: CEO
Languages: English - French is a plus
Experience: 6+ years of experience in a managerial position in finance in a real estate investment company
Requirements: Has a Canadian CPA
Travel: 2-3 times a year

The CFO manages the company's finances, including financial planning, management of financial risks, record-keeping, financial reporting and capital raising.

Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Determine what costs the strategic plan may involve, and, what the ROI are on those costs
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans see if it is viable, test it, and advise the CEO on potential changes to the plan or alternative plans in order to achieve the desired result
  • Develop financial and tax strategies
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
  • Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction
  • Ensure that the financial constraints surrounding the strategy are realistic and not risky
Operations
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team in Canada and the US
  • Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced (Accounting & audit firms etc.)
  • Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions
  • Maintain relationships with banks
  • Represent the company with investment bankers and investors
Financial Information
  • Review financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annually…)
  • Prepare activity reports and financial forecasts
  • Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions
  • Ensure that all of the company's financial practices are in line in statutory regulations and legislation
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
Risk Management
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
Requirements:
  • Has a Canadian CPA
  • 6+ years of managerial experience in finance in a private real estate investment company
  • Excellent communication skills in English (basic French)
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to close deals
  • Rigour and attention to detail
  • Software: YARDI + QuickBooks
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong ability to prioritize
  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership
