Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) - Inpatient, will provide direct professional nursing care for clients requiring complex mental health

services. Utilizing the principles of the nursing process, the RN will implement autonomous nursing actions to ensure that services

provided promote positive patient outcomes. The RN, in partnership with the client and their families and in collaboration with the

clinical team, will coordinate and support the client’s journey toward maximum independence and wellness.

Education & Experience: Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Diploma in Nursing and

current unrestricted

Registration with the

College of Nurses of

Ontario

BSc.N. preferred

Recent experience in an

acute psychiatric setting

Current CPR certification

Certification with the

Canadian Nurses

Association in the

Mental

Health/Psychiatry

specialty is an asset

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills; verbal, nonverbal and written
Evidence of ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with the interprofessional

team

Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the care of clients with severe and persistent mental
illness; inclusive of assessment; problem identification and diagnoses; current treatment

modalities and evaluation of client outcomes

Demonstrated decision making skills assessing a comprehensive range of variables to interpret,
analyze and solve problems

Demonstrated ability to evaluate theoretical and research-based approaches and effectively apply
to practice

Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act of Ontario and Mental Health Reform as well
as skill in application of the legal implications and of the inherent principles

Demonstrated leadership abilities
Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to respond to emerging and dynamic program needs
Demonstrated ability to think quickly during crisis situations
Demonstrated commitment to providing person-centered care following the established principles

of a Recovery Model of care and commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic

directions of the department and of Providence Care

Applicable experience in computer applications/software; Microsoft Office Suite of products
preferred and ability to use patient care systems

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying the principles of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation
including assessment and treatment modalities for schizophrenia, psychosis, depression and mood

disorders

Demonstrated ability to prioritize work effectively, manage a full work-load and meet deadlines in
a busy environment with frequent interruptions

Demonstrated professional work ethic and behaviours in interaction with internal and external
contacts

Demonstrated effectiveness as a team member through collaboration, respect and effective
communication

Demonstrated effectiveness working with minimal supervision with proven reliability and
trustworthiness

Demonstrated good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position
Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check & Vulnerable Sector Screen for external candidates if hired;

must be an original copy, current within last six months

Bilingual in French and English language, preferred
