The Business Relations team within the Innovation and Information Technology Branch (IITB) at ESDC is seeking people who are motivated, client-focused, team players and strategic thinkers to:
- Build and maintain effective relationships with business clients/partners;
- Act as liaison between the IT organization and business clients/partners;
- Help align the business client/partners’ business vision and strategies with the departmental IM and IT strategic direction;
- Engage clients/partners/stakeholders to understand the challenges and opportunities;
- Advocate for clients/partners results and project success;
- Work collaboratively with a diverse community of subject matter experts; and
- Provide advice and guidance to support the provision of reliable and valuable services.
ESDC's Business Relations Advisors/Analysts help shape business demand in order to identify, optimize, and realize the business value of IM/IT services and future technology investments.
Intent of the process
A pool will be created and will be used to staff similar positions with various language and security requirements, and tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, secondment, assignment). All federal organizations listed in Schedules I, IV and V of the Financial Administration Act may use this staffing process to appoint a candidate to its organization.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
ED1. Successful completion of a two (2) year post-secondary educational program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management, Business Management, or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
1.Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.
2.It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.
3.At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.
EX1. Minimum of three (3) years of experience building and maintaining effective relationships or partnerships for the purposes of delivering solutions, projects or services.
EX2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to clients. This experience must include the analysis of business needs, the elaboration of options, and the presentation of recommendations and advice.
EX3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience assessing and communicating how business and technology innovation affects clients’ existing technology and business needs. This experience must have been acquired within the last 5 years.

The criteria below are asset qualifications, as such they are not essential to the positions to be staffed. However, it would be “nice to have” as a candidate and the board members may decide to favor a candidate who has these qualifications. AED1. Post-secondary degree or higher from a recognized post-secondary institution in computer sciences, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
AED2. Business Relationship Management Training and/or Certification.
AED3. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar courses (Introductory, Intermediate).
AED4. Business Analyst Certification.
AQ1. Experience in Project Management.
AQ2. Experience interviewing stakeholders or facilitating multi-stakeholder working groups, conferences or meetings.
AQ3. Experience applying end-to-end analysis as well as options and recommendations to supervisors or senior management.
AQ4. Experience contributing to large or complex* transformational (people, technology and processes) changes within an organization.
AQ5. Experience in Vendor Management.
- Complex : is defined as having two (2) or more of the following factors:
a) A geographically distributed or large (300+) user base;
b) A multi-platform set of technologies requiring integration;
c) A multi-tier diverse set of technologies requiring integration;
d) Supports a large number of stakeholders with diverse interests;
e) Requires collaboration and coordination of multiple stakeholders such as service providers; vendors; service delivery agents; etc.
