Job Description
We are looking for a lawyer with at least 3 years of civil litigation experience in British Columbia to join our growing boutique law firm. The ideal candidate will have a good academic record, solid writing skills, and enjoy a high degree of responsibility and autonomy early in his or her career. The firm focuses its practice mainly in two areas: (a) general commercial litigation, and (b) general corporate matters. While we are looking for a candidate with prior litigation experience, we are able and willing to train the candidate on general corporate matters from zero.
The candidate’s job responsibilities will include:
Litigation Matters
- Preparing court documents, including pleadings, applications, and affidavits.
- Engaging in document discovery as well as conducting and defending examinations for discovery.
- Attending chambers hearings, and occasionally trials.
- Negotiating settlements and preparing settlement documents.
- Conducting legal research.
General Corporate Matters
- Forming corporations and other legal entities.
- Preparing commercial agreements, including, without limitation, shareholders’ agreements, secured and unsecured loan agreements, share purchase agreements, and asset purchase agreements.
- Conducting legal due diligence.
- Negotiating business deals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Law degree (LLB or JD)
- Practicing Member of the Law Society of BC in good standing
Skill Set Required
- Clear and concise legal writing skills
- Capable of working independently most of the time
- Able and willing to interact and communicate with clients from time to time
Job Type
Compensation
- $100,000 - $145,000 base salary + discretionary bonus
- Fee split option following the candidate’s third year with the firm
Schedule
Work Location
- The candidate will be able to work from home on most days. We expect that, on average, the candidate will be able to be in the office 1-2 days per week.
- We plan on having a “work vacation” once a year for 2-4 weeks during which the firm’s members will travel to an overseas destination (such as Thailand, Bali, Greece, etc.) and work for approximately 25-30 hours a week while spending the rest of the time relaxing and exploring the destination.

Pay: $100,000.00-$145,000.00 per year
