Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join our healthcare team. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to support patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities
- Collect and process specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples, ensuring proper labelling and handling.
- Perform laboratory tests accurately using specialised equipment, adhering to established protocols.
- Conduct phlebotomy procedures with precision and care, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Maintain detailed records of test results and specimen information in accordance with data protection regulations.
- Assist with catheterisation procedures when required, following strict aseptic techniques.
- Prepare reagents and solutions necessary for various laboratory tests.
- Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly cleaned, calibrated, and maintained for optimal performance.
- Follow health and safety guidelines diligently to prevent contamination or infection within the lab environment.
- Support the laboratory team with administrative tasks such as inventory management and report documentation.
- Stay updated on current best practices in laboratory techniques, including pediatrics-specific procedures when applicable.
Experience
- Previous hospital experience or work within a clinical laboratory setting is highly desirable.
- Proven competence in phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to laboratory testing.
- Experience with aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during sample handling.
- Familiarity with catheterisation procedures is advantageous.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is preferred but not essential; training can be provided if necessary.
- Experience working with paediatric patients is considered an asset but not mandatory.
