Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to lead the detailed development, design, and drafting of sanitary stainless steel pressure vessels, frames, structures, sanitary piping, and process equipment. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations while driving innovation and efficiency in our manufacturing processes. This role requires strong project management skills, expertise in pressure vessel and process equipment design, and a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
· Provide guidance and leadership in the detailed development, design, and drafting of sanitary stainless steel pressure vessels, frames, structures, sanitary piping, process equipment, and miscellaneous fabrication projects.
· Perform design calculations, prepare technical specifications, and create shop drawings, ensuring adherence to ASME Section VIII Division 1 standards.
· Interpret and implement ASME Section VIII Division 1, CSA B51, B31-1, B31-3 codes, and other relevant regulations governing the fabrication of pressure vessels, process piping, and miscellaneous fabrication.
· Design mixers and agitators for tanks, including selecting and sizing motors, and designing shafts, propellers, scrapers, and baffles, ensuring optimal performance for various fluid mixing applications.
· Create and modify Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in collaboration with process engineers, ensuring accurate depiction of system components, process flows, and instrumentation for effective system design and integration.
· Oversee all aspects of project documentation to meet regulatory and customer requirements, including preparing technical documentation and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
· Participate in developing project updates, bid package estimates, and closing bids. Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
· Manage all aspects of quality manufacturing and compliance practices to meet regulatory and customer requirements for vessels, fabrication, and process piping.
· Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and inspection agencies, to coordinate code compliance and implement value-added propositions.
· Propose alternate approaches and solutions during the design stage to improve quality and productivity in manufacturing and purchasing functions. Participate in engineering design and development for both existing and new product development initiatives.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
· Mechanical engineering degree with a minimum of 10+ years of design and development engineering and project management experience. Sanitary Stainless Steel pressure vessels, frame structures, process equipment and fabrication experience required.
· Experience in pressure vessel design in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1.
· Experience working with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), including interpreting and creating them to ensure accurate representation of process flows, equipment, and instrumentation.
· In-depth knowledge of OSHA safety standards and their application in mechanical design and fabrication environments.
· Strong working knowledge of pressure vessel design software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
· Experience creating drawings for a fabrication shop environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
