DIRECTOR, OPERATIONS PROCUREMENT
Reporting to the Vice President, Canadian Logistics, the Director, Operations Procurement is responsible for managing the operational purchasing needs of the organization including purchasing strategy, planning and sourcing of raw materials or services, external manufacturing, and in-bound delivery and logistics. With Aurora’s high growth and focus on low cost production, an important and highly-visible responsibility for the Director of Procurement will be to negotiate terms, pricing, exclusivity and volume rebates with materials and utilities vendors.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implementing and managing the processes of all purchasing activities to support the continuous flow of material through the organization, drive cost savings and mitigate risk of supply issues throughout the supply chain
Collaborating with manufacturing to ensure production requirements are being met, while balancing warehouse space constraints through planning and scheduling
Analyzing inbound materials requirements, shipment plans and forecasts as it relates to supply agreements
Work closely with Supply Chain, Logistics, and Finance to optimize safety stock levels of critical supplies to prevent downtime while managing cash flow.
Influence / Lead Business leaders in the operating companies through annual procurement savings plan
Fully accountable for execution of the annual procurement savings plan and the results in highly complex categories and supplier markets
Expert in the spend categories within scope of responsibility
Lead, develop and coach team of junior to experienced procurement professionals
Identify and implement mechanisms to ensure excellence in supply chain performance through innovative and creative problem-solving and value-creation strategies that reduce costs and leverage results.
Develop, leverage, and enhance reporting tools and systems to ensure SOX compliance and corporate governance and control.
Inform all internal users about procurement practices and policies and implement best practices in a way that ensures widespread adoption, drawing on strong communication skills and an ability to influence others;
Assess the implementation of a global procurement strategy and ensure that contract and purchase management processes align with the organization’s business strategy to enhance overall performance;
Negotiating cost effective rates for production inputs, including materials and utilities.
Managing the company’s contract agreements and purchase order system
Establishing and monitoring key performance indicators and metrics for supply chain planning, forecasting and scheduling
Maintaining product inventory (biological assets [seeds and plants in growth] and finished goods)
Assist the Facility Directors in tracking and maintaining product inventory
Work with the transportation team to optimize the network by finding opportunities for cost reduction, reduced lead times and improved delivery performance
Ensure supplier compliance with Company requirements for various certifications and qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Undergraduate degree with 8 to 10 years of experience in strategic procurement;
Considerable experience in a leadership role in procurement and employee management;
Extensive expertise in managing national service contracts;
Reputation as a strong, innovative leader and an agent for change backed by an extensive track record;
Strategic thinker with strong organizational skills;
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders with ease;
Ability to play an influential role on multiple teams;
Ability to communicate effectively and influence others, matched by a talent for listening;
Strong sense of ethics;
Ability to work productively either independently or as part of a team, perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects within tight and/or ambiguous deadlines;
Ease in interacting with third parties, including high-level managers, government representatives, lawyers, businesspeople and real estate professionals;
Strong knowledge of practices, principles, and procedures in most aspects of production flow and purchased commodities
Ability to analyze problems and provide solutions
Ability to deal with confidential information with a high degree of diplomacy
Highly skilled with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel)
ERP experience is important. Previous experience implementing an ERP system is an asset
Exceptional planning and organizational skills
Ability to develop a set of KPIs and reporting tools
Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate and lead a team
Adaptable and flexible to a changing environment
5+ years’ experience in a global supply chain environment
Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or other related field preferred
PMAC / SCMP / CSCP designation
