Hours of Work: 5.5 hrs/day (27.5 hrs/week)
Rate of Pay: $34.97/hour

This position includes 60 minutes per week of non-classroom collaboration time.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Principal or teacher, the Education Assistant is required to work effectively as a member of a team to support students in developing independence in an inclusive environment. The successful applicant is expected to:
- Provide assistance in implementation of Inclusive Education Plan goals and supports.
- Work effectively with students with diverse needs in an inclusive environment and respond effectively to challenges that are physically and emotionally demanding.
- Monitor, observe and record data on student growth and compile information/materials for student care team meetings as directed.
- Provide positive behaviour supports including reinforcement and consequences.
- Carry out daily schedules and life-skills routines/activities under direction of teachers.
- Encourage and support students in the development of personal skills and interests to promote independence.
- As directed, work with outside agencies and consultants such as speech and language pathologists and physiotherapists to carry out prescribed exercises and programs.
- Provide close supervision of students in classroom, school, playground and community settings.
- Provide personal assistance that may include lifting, mobility, toileting.
- Work in a setting with a high degree of confidentiality.
- Perform other job-related duties.
- Demonstrate the qualities of a good role model, including relating in a supportive, positive, encouraging manner to students of all ages.
- Display excellent communication and interpersonal skills in working with students, staff and caregivers.
- Maintain safe work practices.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Successful completion of an approved Education Assistant Program
- Computer literacy
- Willingness to learn specialized skills and programs as required.
- Physical capability to perform duties, including lifting and toileting.
