We are currently looking for an experienced Test Cell Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team in our Calgary location.
Reporting to the Manager, Test Cells the Test Cell Engineer in Training (EIT) is responsible for the testing of General Electric and/or Siemens industrial gas turbines, as well as assisting in all aspects of repair and overhaul in the TransCanada Turbines facility. Additionally, the role is responsible for engineering support of testing and facility maintenance activities.
The role has wide reaching responsibilities and is an opportunity to gain practical Engineering experience, utilizing a broad range of engineering principles to assist with development of new capabilities and optimization of existing repair and overhaul processes.
This position will allow the incumbent to acquire significant technical knowledge of Gas Turbine (Industrial/Aero) machinery from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
A strong focus on quality is essential, with a requirement to positively embrace continual improvement via the application & development of TCT’s Management Systems.
Engine Testing
- Accomplish the testing of General Electric and Siemens industrial gas turbines, ensuring that this work is carried out in accordance with the applicable OEM manuals, TCT specifications and procedures, and standard industry practices.
- Preparation of engines for the testing in the TransCanada Turbines test cell facility.
- Engine and facility operation and data collection to achieve test objectives
- Engine troubleshooting.
- Performance Analysis in accordance with the relevant test schedules, including production of customer test reports.
- Preparation of the engines after testing is complete for dispatch to the customer, including borescope inspection of engines.
- Participate in engine Test Reject investigations and develop repair work scopes.
- Develop and improve the productivity and scheduling of the test cell facility.
- Inspection, maintenance and repair of engine test support equipment.
- Participate in Calibration of the Test Cell equipment in accordance with TCT Quality procedures and OEM and manufacturers specifications.
- Troubleshooting and repair of instrumentation, electronic control systems and supporting mechanical equipment.
- Develop and improve the engine test support systems.
- Monitor and maintain tooling, equipment and consumables. Ensure that equipment is kept in a safe reliable working order. Remove from service any tool or equipment found to be defective.
Shop Floor
- Hands on disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair and/or assembly of the various product types as required to achieve shop production schedules. Make ongoing work scope recommendations based upon shop floor observations.
- Work with the engine team(s) to ensure a focused, constructive and communicative working environment, delivering high levels of personal and company performance from your team, and from the support services working with your team.
- Make recommendations on tooling and equipment to be provisioned for a gas generator overhaul shop and field service group.
- Make recommendations on policy and procedures to improve shop productivity and profit of the company in general, and to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
General
- Ensure company technical and quality standards applied throughout the business in order to develop a best in class product/service.
- Assist in the development and generation of key performance metrics as required by the business.
- Conduct technical liaison with General Electric and Siemens on a broad range of engineering/technical topics.
- Help to ensure that customer expectations are met, in terms of delivery, cost, quality and responsiveness.
- Monitor shop practices to ensure that the facility is always operated in a healthy, safe, and environmentally conscience manner, per TCT policies and procedures. Take steps to correct any condition that violates this fundamental principle.
- Increase knowledge of the HSE Policy and Manual and maintain a positive attitude towards the health and safety of myself and my coworkers.
- Take ownership of HSE issues and demonstrate enthusiasm and support for HSE.
- Other duties as directed by the Manager, Test Cells.

Qualifications and Experience:
- University Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) or working towards professional accreditation.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Successful completion of a post-offer medical and drug test.
