Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled NDT Inspector to join our team for a short-term project starting in mid-June, with the potential to transition into a recurring or long-term position based on performance and upcoming project demand. In this position, you will perform critical non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. You will primarily be responsible for conducting Magnetic Particle and Ultrasonic inspections, evaluating the integrity of welds and materials, and generating detailed technical reports for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Inspections: Perform Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) in accordance with applicable codes (e.g., ASME, CSA) and client specifications.
- Evaluate Results: Accurately interpret test data and evaluate findings against strict acceptance criteria to identify surface and subsurface defects.
- Reporting: Document all inspection findings clearly and produce comprehensive, timely reports for clients and internal teams.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of NDT equipment to ensure precision and reliability in the field.
- Collaboration: Work closely with site supervisors, engineers, and quality control teams to communicate testing outcomes and provide recommendations.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all occupational health and safety protocols, environmental regulations, and Steelhead’s internal safety policies.
Required Qualifications
- Active CGSB (Canadian General Standards Board) Certification in Magnetic Particle Testing Level 2 (MT2).
- Active CGSB Certification in Ultrasonic Testing Level 1 (UT1) minimum (UT2 is highly advantageous).
- Demonstrated experience performing field-based NDE/NDT in industrial or construction environments.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and safety.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation to access sites around the Nanaimo region.
Preferred Skills & Assets
- Additional CGSB certifications (e.g., PT2, RT2) or CWB Visual Welding Inspector certification.
- Current safety tickets, including Standard First Aid, Fall Protection, and Confined Space Entry.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of working effectively both independently and as part of a crew.
Work Conditions
- This is a field role in the Nanaimo area.
- Standard 40-hour work week (Monday–Friday with possible overtime).
- Candidates must provide their own computer with Microsoft Office and a PDF editing program.
