Prep Cook / Line Cook – Fence & Post
At Fence & Post, we’re a small, independent restaurant with a big passion for craftsmanship. From hand-shaped sourdough and house-cured meats to churned-from-scratch ice cream, nearly everything on our menu is made from scratch in-house. We work closely with local producers to showcase the best of Alberta through thoughtful, seasonal cooking.
We’re currently looking for a Prep Cook / Line Cook to join our team.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys the fundamentals of cooking and takes pride in creating quality food from the ground up. While a large portion of the role focuses on prep production, you will also spend time working on the line during service and must be comfortable in both environments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Preparing a wide variety of ingredients and components from scratch
- Assisting with bread production, sauces, stocks, desserts, butchery, charcuterie, and other in-house preparations
- Learning and executing a variety of cooking techniques, including roasting, braising, smoking, fermentation, curing, preservation, baking, and sauce making
- Maintaining prep lists and ensuring stations are stocked and organized
- Working line shifts as needed, assisting with service execution and plating
- Following recipes accurately while maintaining consistency and quality
- Practicing proper food safety and sanitation standards at all times
- Keeping work areas exceptionally clean, organized, and efficient
- Supporting the team wherever needed to ensure a successful service
What We’re Looking For
- Previous kitchen experience preferred, but attitude and work ethic matter just as much as experience
- A genuine interest in learning traditional and modern cooking techniques
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and stay productive during prep shifts
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced service environment when needed
- Pride in cleanliness and maintaining an organized workspace
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
- A passion for food and a desire to continue developing your skills
