Description: Reporting to the Head, User Engagement, the User Experience (UX) Replacement Librarian engages meaningfully with Library users and enables evidence-based service planning to respond to user needs and enhance the user experience. The incumbent leads the exploration into Library user needs and experiences in participatory, collaborative and iterative ways using a variety of action research methods such as surveys, usability tests, interviews and journey maps. The Replacement Librarian participates in user services improvement and design, promotes and advocates for the implementation of UX design principles (useful, valuable, usable, findable, credible, accessible) to the Library’s physical and virtual services and public spaces. In close collaboration with the Assessment and Special Projects Librarian and other Library stakeholders, the incumbent participates in the development of assessment plans and helps foster a culture of assessment within the Library.
The Replacement Librarian actively participates in and/or leads Library collaborative activities. The incumbent is a participative member of an evolving organization that emphasizes service quality, innovation, outreach, and partnership within the Library, across campus, and beyond.
A Master's degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent.
At least 2 years of professional experience, or fewer if the experience is particularly pertinent to the position.
Effective oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
Knowledge of user needs assessment methodologies and user experience design principles.
Experience in designing surveys, conducting usability tests, interviews, and other action research methods.
Project management skills, including experience planning, organizing and managing resources to successfully complete project objectives within timeframes.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
Adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to a changing environment.
Problem solving and decision-making skills.
Capacity to identify areas of opportunity and to develop and implement innovative solutions.
Rank and the salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This position is part of the APUO bargaining unit (faculty, librarians, counsellors, and language teachers).
