Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant employment provide International Medical Graduates (IMGs) with an alternate career path to becoming Clinical/Surgical Assistants. All candidates complete a six-month assessment and evaluation, and upon successful completion, can lead to a full-time and permanent acute care coverage role that addresses clinical and/or surgical coverage shortages. Acute Care Coverage is currently recruiting Clinical Assistants for neonate inpatient units in the Edmonton Zone. We are looking for professionals with pediatric and/or neonatal training or clinical experience.

Description:
Clinical Assistants will provide day and after-hours coverage in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in three acute care sites in the Edmonton Zone. The provider will care for neonates including preterm and term infants with a range of high acuity in the level 3 NICU to convalescing infants in the level 2 NICU’s. Clinical Assistants will be integrated into the current healthcare team, which includes fellows, Nurse Practitioners (NP), residents and clinical associates. Successful candidates will be hired as AHS employees with annual remuneration per the CSA Salary grid. Hours are 2610 annually, which on average is 300 hours in a 6-week period. Responsibilities/Duties: All clinical activities are performed under the supervision of the neonatologist and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. Some of the clinical assistant responsibilities can include but are not limited to, completing admissions, ordering and performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, assessing and responding to the patient’s medical needs as they arise and planning care throughout the patient’s hospitalization. Providers will also be involved in the resuscitation of infants at birth and in providing neonatology consultations for infants in postpartum wards and the emergency room.

Required Qualifications:
Only International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who have submitted a complete application package to ACSAP and shared the applicable documentation according to the requirements listed on the program website are eligible to apply. Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with recent experience in the clinical management of neonates and experience in the Canadian health system are preferred. Preference will be given to individuals with neonatal training in Canada.
