Carpenter (Multi-Skilled Tradesperson)
Carpenters at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state Multi-Skilled Tradespeople use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a Multi-Skilled Tradesperson.
Responsible for…
The multi-talented Carpenter is skilled in the following ways:
- Refined skills with various in-home renovation repairs/restoration vs new build
- Rough and trim and finish
- Installation, doors, trim, moldings, and baseboards
- Cabinetry
- Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts
- Drywall repairs: boarding and mudding
- Brush and roller painting (could include walls, ceilings, trim)
- Ceiling installation, knockdown and texturing
- Insulation and vapour barrier installation
- Being awesome, in general!
What you bring
The Multi-Skilled Tradesperson brings a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:
- 5+ years experience interior carpentry repairs
- Leadership to guide helpers and train less experienced workers
- Ability to work well alone or in a team
- Experience working in construction environments
- Tools and the skills to use them
- Strong people and communication skills
- Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do
- Interest in cross training and willingness to help out all team members regardless if the job is related to carpentry duties
- Ability to work later than scheduled when needed: including travelling out of town
- A safety mindset
- Valid drivers license
- Ability to pass a criminal record check
- Ability to communicate in English
Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:
- JM Red Seal Carpentry ticket
- Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)
- IICRC certification (restoration focus)
Of Note
Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

- Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Are you comfortable operating a phone to navigate through applications and record info as instructed?
- Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours as per the schedule. Premium and overtime is paid.
- Do you consider yourself to be a leader, organized and self motivated? This position requires a high degree of making logical decisions, training helpers, dealing with home-owners, schedules and job duties, and above all attitude is #1.

- Do you have your own hand and power tools for the job?
- This position involves entering homes that have experienced flood or fire damage and completing all necessary repairs — including drywall repair, painting, rough/trim/finish carpentry, and more. Essentially, the role requires someone who can restore a home from start to finish. Please describe why you believe you would be the best fit for this job:
- This position requires frequent heavy lifting, as well as continuous physical activity such as standing, crouching, bending, reaching, and kneeling. Are you able to perform this level of physical work on a consistent basis?
- Are you able to work later than scheduled when required? Are you able to work out of town for extended periods (one-two weeks)? Please let us know if you are seeking local work only, or if you would be open to opportunities that may require travel outside of Grande Prairie.
Experience:
- finishing carpentry: 3 years (preferred)
- interior repairs vs new build: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Canadian Driver's License (required)
