We are currently seeking Journeyman Electricians with experience in roadway lighting infrastructure to join our Maintenance group. We are specifically looking for electricians with experience in street lighting and traffic signal systems to support the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and optimization of municipal traffic control infrastructure and related roadway electrical assets.
This role focuses on maintaining traffic signals, street lighting systems, traffic cabinets, controllers, detection equipment, and associated electrical infrastructure. Electricians will respond to equipment failures, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex electrical systems, and support infrastructure upgrades while working safely in various weather and field conditions.
This Edmonton-based position operates Monday to Friday and includes frequent out-of-town travel, typically consisting of 1–3 day trips to service municipalities outside the Edmonton area. Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of municipal traffic signal and roadway electrical systems
- Support overall crew effectiveness through strong technical knowledge and field experience
- Contribute to safe and efficient daily operations, ensuring service priorities and response expectations are met
- Promote and follow safe work practices in all field activities
- Conduct inspections, diagnostics, signal timing implementation, and system performance optimization
- Identify potential system risks and support proactive maintenance to protect infrastructure assets
- Follow established maintenance procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of field practices
- Complete accurate documentation, reporting, and asset tracking as required
- Coordinate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders as needed
Skills Needed
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities in complex, time-sensitive environments.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to identify operational risks and improvement opportunities in maintenance planning and execution.
- Strong technical knowledge of roadway electrical systems, signal control systems, and related equipment.
- Proficiency in digital documentation, reporting systems, and operational software.
- Flexibility to work, days, nights, weekends, or out-of-town assignments as required.
Qualifications Required
- Two-year diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or a valid Journeyman Electrician Certificate,
- Experience in municipal traffic signal installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- IMSA Certified Traffic Signal Technician certificate
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $37.00-$40.00 per hour
