Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Drafting & Design Technician with 3–5 years of experience in mechanical drafting and design. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and modifying detailed engineering drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and CADWorx. This role will work closely with engineering, assembly, and production teams to support ongoing projects, design updates, and manufacturing requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical or industrial background and experience supporting design changes throughout the assembly and manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, revise, and maintain 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and CADWorx.
- Develop detailed fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly drawings, including piping and equipment layouts where applicable.
- Support assembly and production teams by incorporating design modifications and drawing updates as required.
- Update 3D models, assemblies, and related documentation based on engineering changes and shop feedback.
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure designs meet project and production requirements.
- Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
- Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawing revisions, and engineering documentation.
- Assist with troubleshooting design and fit-up issues during assembly and fabrication.
- Maintain organized drawing records and revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Design Technology, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in drafting, design, or CAD modeling within a mechanical or industrial environment.
- Mandatory proficiency in AutoCAD and CADWorx, including 3D modeling and layout/detailing work.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical components, assemblies, and fabrication practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to commute to project sites as required
Preferred Qualifications (Good to have)
- Experience working in a manufacturing, fabrication, shop, or industrial environment.
- Hands-on exposure to assembly processes and manufacturing operations.
- Knowledge of welding, machining, fabrication, and general manufacturing practices.
- Experience with site measurements, field verification, and as-built drawings.
- Knowledge of GD&T, welding drawings, and fabrication standards is an asset.
- Experience with piping/equipment CAD workflows (e.g., isometrics, layout drawings) is an asset.
