High-Level Description

Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Accounting Analyst is responsible for the coordination, preparation, maintenance and analysis of the General Ledgers. Provides general ledger application support to key contacts. Responsible for Identifying, researching and implementing general ledger process improvements. Responsible for addressing ad hoc inquiries and analysis requirements in support of the financial reporting processes. This position is expected to work with significant independence on standard assignments.


Prepare month end recurring and non-recurring journal entries, ensures financial information is entered into the general ledger system on a timely basis to meet financial cycle reporting timelines.
Drive Day 1 to Day 6 month end activities, ensuring completion of specific accountabilities and deliverables associated with each day.
Review and analyze the monthly general ledger for reasonableness, accuracy of information and compliance with Company policies.
Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations; follow up and clears outstanding issues on a timely basis.
Work with sub-ledger groups and other stakeholders to ensure that all financial reporting requirements are met and issues / queries are resolved timely.
Analyze monthly Treasury reports and prepares reasonability checks and reconciliations for interest expense, loan repayments, debt continuities, cashbooks and money monitors. Work with Treasury to resolve any discrepancies.
Identify process improvements and propose solutions.
Assist in training and coaching Accounting Analyst
Assist with SOx reporting requirements.
Support adhoc requests as needed.

Support management with the execution of accounting activities for pipeline companies (i.e. actual reporting); ensuring information requirements, reporting and variance analysis are met in terms of quality, relevance, timeliness & compliance with accounting standards. Coordination of ad hoc management requests for various financial analyses.
Involved in Client Focus within the Team. Involved in reviewing client needs to improve quality of work and adding any required services to enhance client satisfaction.
Ensure sufficient guidance and appropriate tools are provided to internal customers to facilitate their compliance with governance processes and to fulfil their financial roles.
Involved in the identification and implementation of changes to streamline accounting practices that will increase the efficiency of the Financial Reporting processes.
Act as a liaison for internal / external audits.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Related university or college degree with 2 to 4 years’ experience in an accounting environment.
Recently obtained or is working towards a professional accounting designation.
Strong analytical, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
Strong knowledge of Oracle Financials / Hyperion Financial Management / SmartView would be an asset.
Strong knowledge of GAAP.
Working knowledge of US GAAP.
Proven team player, with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, while demonstrating a high level of cooperation and mutual respect.
Strong organizational skills; ability to manage several project deadlines concurrently.
