Corner's Pride Farms is a leading dairy farm located in beautiful Rosedale, British Columbia. We are seeking a Heifer Raising Herdsman to join our talented team!
As the successful applicant, you are an integral part of our organization because you will be involved in the daily raising of our replacement heifers as well as cattle we are raising for customers. Our dairy operations require good quality replacement heifers to join our milking group. The calves that arrive at our robotic facility require exceptional care to reach breeding age and eventually maturity to become milking cows.
The Position
Your duties will include the following responsibilities:
- Breeding heifers through AI
- Processing incoming cattle
- Weekly barn cleaning and bedding
- Weighing, moving, and sorting cattle
- Monitor health and administer treatments if needed
- Operate farm machinery
- Minor maintenance of facilities and pasture
- Participate in team meetings
Your Qualifications
- A trained “eye" for identifying cattle sickness and discomfort
- Two years' experience as a farm herdsman
- Must have good animal husbandry skills
- Exceptional communication skills
- Strong teamwork skills
- Able to operate farm machinery and equipment
- Previous AI (artificial insemination) breeding experience preferred
This position works under the Heifer Raising Manager and we are willing to train for the skills above for the right candidate.
