POSITION TITLE: ASSSISTANT ACTIVITY/RECREATION MANAGER
REPORTS TO: ACTIVITY MANAGER
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications:
- A community college diploma/university degree in recreation/leisure or a university degree in psychology, sociology or gerontology plus a certificate in recreation/leisure. Certificates in management, gerontology and volunteer management an asset.
- Previous experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, creativity and high motivation.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate others (staff, students, volunteers, residents).
- Familiarity with community resources an asset.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word for Windows or other word processors or programs as needed an asset.
- Valid driver’s license, and in some cases, willingness to obtain special class license.
- This position will require some evenings and weekends
Physical Demands:
- Sitting for long periods at a desk for computer/typing work
- Standing for long periods of time during events, activities
- Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
- Typing and/or use of a computer keyboard proficiently
- Pulling/pushing/lifting to relocate furniture, gaming pieces, etc. up to 50lbs
- Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen for long periods of time
- Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes
- Speaking/communicating in front of audiences and to individuals with impairments and disabilities for long periods of time.
- Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents where required
- Hand/eye coordination required to play games with Residents
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement and evaluate leisure programs and services to meet the psychosocial, physical, intellectual and spiritual needs of all residents.
- Provide opportunities wherever possible to involve residents in the planning, provision and evaluation of leisure, educational and fundraising activities.
- Active vibrant engagement with residents to ensure comprehensive inclusion by residents in the various programming of events and activities
- Assess individual resident needs and provide ongoing documentation of resident progress.
- Coordinate the Volunteer program including recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation.
- Coordinate the Pastoral Care program to meet individual resident needs.
- Facilitate the activities of the Residents’ Council where appropriate.
- Develop consistent programing using internal personnel and external volunteers and vendors. Produce a vibrant monthly calendar highlighting all events and activities scheduled.
- Promote the activity program and the residence through monthly activity calendars, newsletters, and coverage of events by local newspapers, etc.
- Manage departmental budget. Organize and participate in fundraising activities where appropriate i.e. to benefit the resident activity program.
- Supervise Activity/Recreation staff and students including hiring, orientation and training, scheduling, ongoing education and development, discipline and conducting annual performance appraisals.
- Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary and management teams, regarding both resident care and residence operations.
- Participation in the Management on Call schedule with the ability to be available for weekend coverage.
- Memory care courses or Montessori training for seniors.
- Maintain active presence in the Front of House via the positioning of the role at the Front Desk and having that point as the main point of contact.
- Coordination of the passenger van transportation to and from events inclusive of being the active driver and coordination other drivers.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
