Hours of Work:Monday to Thursday 8:00AM-4:30PM; Friday 8:00AM-2:00PM

We are recruiting for a Mechanical Designer at our Automation & Tooling Centre:
Primary responsibilities:
- Design automated machinery and tooling for metal forming applications
- Perform preliminary engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs
- Plan, organize and manage projects from concept through to final customer acceptance
- Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
- Create and maintain concise documentation and drawings including concept sketches, detail & assembly drawings, and bills of materials
- Review electrical requirements with respect to input and output devices, with electrical designers
- Specify appropriate components, obtain quotes, and outsource purchased and manufactured parts from vendors
- Assist the fabricators, machinists, toolmakers and electricians during construction and start-up to resolve problems and assist with completion of systems
- Liaise with internal and external fabrication and machine shops to evaluate manufacturing feasibility and associated costs
- Effective troubleshooting and ability to communicate efficiently regarding problems that may arise during assembly and final testing.
- Facilitating the development of user manuals, training materials, and other documents as needed to enable successful implementation and turnover of the process or system to the clients.
- Conducting post-project evaluation and identifying successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Qualifications Required:
- University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline complemented by 5+ years experience in the Tool & Die or Machine Building Environment
- Strong Mechanical aptitude experienced building large machinery with complex mechanisms and devices.
- Fully competent with the use of SOLIDWORKS is a must
- Thorough knowledge and experience with the sizing and application of components for pneumatic and hydraulic systems in addition to good understanding of circuit logic.
- Understanding of applications for Servo systems and electrical devices (i.e., sensors, switches, position transducers, visions system etc.)
- Competent knowledge of GD&T with excellent thorough knowledge of all drafting principles
- Good understanding of materials & properties, manufacturing processes and techniques in a machine shop environment
- Must be capable of taking direction to design tooling from sketches or verbal concepts
- Computer literate; capable of working with MS Office
- Familiar with ERP systems
- Capable of working in a high-pressure environment with a strong sense of urgency, and effectively meet competing demands and priorities
- Effective communication, both verbal and written
- Have a flexible and creative approach while working in an environment that is dedicated to continuous improvement
- Must be resourceful to find alternate methods to meet deadlines.
