About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 78-year-old gentleman in Markham who recently experienced a fall resulting in a concussion. Since the fall approximately one month ago, his mobility and balance have declined, and he occasionally experiences urgency with toileting. He's a slim man (160-170 lbs, 5'6"-5'7") who speaks conversational English but would be most comfortable with a Cantonese-speaking caregiver. His wife, who is in her early seventies, has been his primary caregiver but needs support as they navigate a potential move from their detached home to a bungalow in the Markham area.
Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision for safety as he moves around the home
- Assist with mobility and transfers, monitoring his balance and gait
- Support with toileting and personal hygiene as needed
- Prepare light meals, snacks, or reheat food
- Accompany him during activities to prevent falls
- Provide companionship and engage in conversation
- Occasionally assist with transportation to appointments or errands
- Communicate clearly with family members about his daily status
What We're Looking For:
We need someone who makes him feel comfortable and respected while maintaining his independence. The ideal caregiver is calm, patient, and brings positive energy to the home. You should be reliable, take initiative when needed, and communicate clearly with the family. Experience supporting clients with balance issues, fall risk, and memory changes is essential. Physical ability to assist with transfers for a smaller-framed individual is required. Fluency in Cantonese is strongly preferred, though he can communicate in English. This is their first time receiving private care, so someone who can help ease the transition would be wonderful.
Schedule:
We're looking for a regular weekly schedule with a minimum of 6 hours per week, structured as either two 3-hour visits or three 2-hour visits. The specific days and times are flexible and can be discussed based on mutual availability. Additional ad-hoc hours may be available when the family needs to attend appointments or run errands related to their upcoming move.
