Penalta is looking for an experienced Project Manager with ground-up construction experience. We have a strong and growing pipeline of industrial, commercial, and institutional projects across the GTA, including large-format industrial distribution centres and new-build commercial work. We are connecting with proven PMs now so the right person is in place as these projects move forward.
This is full-cycle project management. You will take projects from pre-construction through close-out, with accountability for scope, budget, schedule, and team performance. You will work directly with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and our site teams, and you will have real authority to run your projects.
What You Will Do
- Lead ground-up ICI projects from pre-construction through close-out with full accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety
- Drive pre-construction activities including constructability reviews, scheduling, procurement planning, and subcontractor buyout
- Manage project financials including budgets, cost-to-complete reporting, forecasting, and change orders
- Build and maintain client and consultant relationships through clear, regular communication and proactive issue resolution
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams to keep work on schedule and built to spec
- Lead and develop project teams including Assistant Project Managers and Project Coordinators
- Identify risks early, develop mitigation plans, and adjust schedules and resources to keep work on track
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents to inform planning and construction methods
What You Need
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering, or a related field
- Progressive project management experience with a general contractor on ground-up ICI projects
- Direct experience on industrial, commercial, or institutional new builds; large-format industrial (warehouse and distribution) experience is a strong asset
- Proven track record taking projects through the full lifecycle, from pre-construction and buyout to turnover and close-out
- Comfort managing multiple projects or running a single large project, depending on assignment
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction documents, specifications, building codes, and Ontario regulatory requirements
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management software
- Proficiency in project scheduling, cost tracking, and financial reporting
- Working knowledge of site servicing, foundations, structural sequencing, and building envelope on new-build projects is an asset
Core Competencies
- Strong decision-making and technical judgment under pressure
- Clear written and verbal communication, including client-facing and executive-level reporting
- Ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and resolve conflicts on the fly
- Strategic thinker who spots risks early and acts on them
- Self-starter who takes ownership of a project without needing heavy oversight
Why Penalta
Growth and Development
- Opportunity to mentor and build project teams as the company scales
- Clear path into senior project management and operational leadership
The Work
- Ownership of projects from pre-construction through close-out with real decision-making authority
- Variety across project types and sectors including industrial, commercial, retail, and residential
- A collaborative environment that values accountability, execution, and continuous improvement
- A growing pipeline of ground-up work across the GTA
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary aligned with experience
- Eligibility for annual performance bonus
- Comprehensive benefits package
What Makes This Role Different
We are hiring ahead of our pipeline, not scrambling after an award. That means the right candidate gets in early, helps shape how these projects are planned and staffed, and is not parachuted into someone else's mess. Penalta is a growing GC where PMs have real ownership, direct access to leadership, and the chance to build something rather than just maintain it. If you want to run ground-up work with genuine authority and grow with the company, we want to talk.
