Position Overview:
An Instructor Therapist is a professional who works directly with children, youth, or adults and most commonly individuals with ASD to implement treatment plans based on Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). An Instructor Therapist will provide therapy under the supervision of a senior clinician such as a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA) or supervising therapist. Additionally, an Instructor Therapist will always ensure a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow. Whilst helping to ensure the basic needs of the individual are being met and surpassed when required.
In our clinical setting, this position plays a crucial role in supporting children’s wellbeing and development. As an Instructor Therapist you will deliver evidence-based behavioural interventions designed to develop communication, social, academic, daily living, and behavioural regulation skills while reducing challenging behaviours. You will collect and document data to support treatment decisions and monitor client progress with the supervision of your clinical supervisor.
Responsibilities:
1. Implement individualized ABA treatment programs according to clinical plans.
2. Conduct one-to-one therapy sessions with clients.
3. Teach skills in areas such as:
- Communication and language
- Social interaction
- Play and leisure skills
- Self-help and daily living skills
- Academic readiness
- Emotional regulation
4. Use behavioural teaching strategies, including:
- Discrete Trial Training (DTT)
- Natural Environment Teaching (NET)
- Task Analysis
- Prompting and Fading
- Reinforcement Procedures
5. Collect accurate session data and maintain client records.
6. Monitor behaviour and implement behaviour support plans.
7. Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding client progress.
8. Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, and training activities.
9. Collaborate with families, caregivers, teachers, and other professionals as appropriate.
10. Maintain confidentiality and comply with organizational policies and ethical standards.
Requirements & Skills:
1. Education: College diploma or equivalent university degree regarding; special education, behaviour analysis, or a related field.
2. Experience: 2 years prior experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is preferred.
3. Knowledge of child development and a solid understanding of applied behaviour analysis principles.
4. Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, families, and team members.
5. Compassion and Patience: Display a high level of compassion, patience, and empathy while working with individuals with autism and their families.
6. Data Collection and Analysis: Ability to collect and analyze data accurately, ensuring adherence to data recording protocols.
7. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt therapy techniques and approaches based on individual client needs and progress.
8. Time Management: Effective time management skills to balance multiple client cases and administrative responsibilities.
9. Ethics and Professionalism: Uphold the highest ethical standards and always maintain a professional demeanor.
10. Exceptional interpersonal skills, a caring approach, and ability to provide comfort.
11. Help meet the basic needs of caring for children in the centre including feeding, changing diapers, and helping clients change into clean clothing when needed.
12. Availability: Days/evenings.
13. Current CPR.
14. Current NVCI.
15. Current and clean CPIC.
16. Use of the P.A.C.E model.
17. Participating in additional training as requested/required for the position.
Physical Requirements:
The position of Instructor Therapist may involve physical activity, such as kneeling, bending, and sitting on the floor, as well as assisting with lifting or supporting clients with mobility challenges.

Expected Hours: 33.75 - 37.5 (weekly)
