Reports to General Counsel

Provide administrative and secretarial support to the General Counsel and department in the legal practices while protecting sensitive and confidential information.

1. Conduct research.

2. Communicate and meet with DDSB staff and external stakeholders to collect details, investigate facts and summarize materials.

3. Prepare books of documents for education litigation matters.

4. Respond to requests from various stakeholders at the DDSB.

5. Prepare standard correspondence and reports.

6. Maintain department files and data as per DDSB Board Policy and general legal practices.

7. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the department.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. Community College Diploma in Paralegal Education/Legal Assistant, or an equivalent combination of education and related employment experience.

2. Minimum 5 (five) years administrative assistant experience and at least 2 (two) years supporting a legal practice.

3. Ability to accurately record and transcribe minutes of meetings (shorthand/speedwriting/electronically).

4. Strong research skills.

5. Excellent oral and written communications skills, excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, strong attention to details.

6. Ability to plan and organize work in a timely and efficient manner.

7. Ability to deal with constant demands, deadlines and interruptions.

8. Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, Power Point and other administrative software applications (i.e. Outlook)
