Your Opportunity

We are seeking someone to join our team who brings both technical editing and document controls experience (particularly in a heavy industrial industry) and is enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge with others while learning new skills themselves. This position will provide both technical editing and document management / control services for our mining projects and will primarily work in an office setting with some opportunity for travel.

Your Key Responsibilities

Technical Editing:
Collaborate with leadership and other stakeholders to implement technical editing services for Canadian-based mining projects. This will include working with the US based editing team to maintain consistency and leverage existing tools / processes, while establishing local requirements.
Use advanced writing, editing, and analytical skills to assist subject matter experts in the preparation of technical documents such as reports, proposals, specifications, standards, etc.
Ensure documents conform to Stantec and client style requirements.

Document Controls:
Help our projects stay on schedule and within budget by tracking, controlling, and providing status reports of deliverables throughout their lifecycles.
Ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to Stantec and client standards which govern things like workflows, metadata, formatting, document and revision numbering, and approvals, for example.
Provide training and support for Stantec’s electronic and hard copy filing systems.
Participate in improvement initiatives.
Perform project and operational administrative duties, such as:
Organizing and attending meetings.
Capturing meeting minutes, action items, and decisions.
Covering reception on occasion.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Strong command of the nuances of the English language, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate with and distill information from a variety of sources.
Experience working with style guides (e.g., CMOS, APA, MLA).
Experience with document control systems, processes, and standards, particularly within heavy industrial industries.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to learn and adapt to programs and processes quickly.

Proficiency with the following software:
Microsoft (MS) Office 2010, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Adobe Acrobat Professional
File-sharing and electronic document management systems (EDMS) platforms, such as ProjectWise, SharePoint, Aconex, FTP sites, and Bluebeam Revu
Familiarity with the project management lifecycle.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism, English, communications, or related field.
Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in both document controls and technical editing (concurrent experience is acceptable), preferably working on heavy industrial projects at a consulting engineering firm.

Typical office environment includes working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Occasional travel may be required.
