Reporting to the General Manager (GM) of Gather, the Assistant Manager (AM) will be responsible for supporting the operating of a profitable restaurant, Gather Craft Kitchen & Bar along with The Leaf Coffee Bar. The Assistant Manager (AM), Gather will support the management of the day-to-day operations including meeting budgeted productivity, ensuring operational standards and policy compliance are met, adhering to revenue and payroll budgets, ensuring appropriate inventory and supply levels, and ensuring that staff follow all health and safety regulations set by Manitoba Health and LGCA regulations, at all times. This position will also work with several corporate support departments such as Finance, HR, Health & Safety, and Operations to ensure the execution of a sound business. This position will establish priorities and organize day-to-day workflow with a high degree of accuracy to deliver excellent guest experiences. As the AM, you must be flexible, with the ability to problem solve and adapt to changes quickly, operate within time sensitive deadlines, and handle multiple guest demands with a high degree of professionalism.
The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for talent management through recruitment, training, and development strategies for employees with a focus on building the team complement through regular coaching and feedback, succession planning, goal-setting and performance evaluations, as well as ensuring a high degree of employee morale by creating a supportive employee-centered environment. Work closely with the GM, this position will develop a thoughtful service team that delivers high quality service and creates memorable guest experiences. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Operational Responsibilities
- Accountable for supporting the overall operational and financial performance at Gather Craft Kitchen & Bar and The Leaf Coffee Bar.
- Support the development of the department budget, including revenue forecasts and all operating expenses, (labour, COGS, equipment, supplies, etc.).
- Achieve operational objectives, implement productivity and quality measures, and standards of service.
- Ensure department priorities are understood by all staff and that department measures are met and monitor cost of goods (COG’s) and pricing to achieve budgeted COG’s targets.
- Ensure the implementation of service excellence standards to enhance and improve the guest experience.
- Oversee and complete the restaurant inventory, ensuring accuracy & timely reporting
- Monitor and order inventory and restaurant supplies, ensuring sufficient stock levels.
- Ensure standard operating processes, safe work practices, policies and procedures are up to date, documented and understood by all Gather employees.
- Assist the GM to ensure staff incident reports and incident investigations are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure staff adhere to all LGCA and MB Health regulations.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all statutory regulations affecting restaurant health and safety, ensuring that any safety hazards are identified and rectified.
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in the restaurant areas including refrigerators, storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
- Schedule staff in accordance with business demands, adjustment schedules to manage labour costs, where necessary.
- Manage daily cash reconciliation and tip out procedures and pay-outs.
- Assist in the GM in scheduling of all regular maintenance and inspection for restaurant equipment, working with Facilities and external contractors.
- Assist in overseeing the deliveries to ensure the products have been delivered, stored, and secured according to the standards set by provincial health regulations when required.
- Respond in a positive and timely manner to all internal and external guest requests and complaints.
- Delegate duties as required to other supervisors and staff.
Finance
- Support the management of the Gather & Coffee Bar operating budgets.
- Demonstrate excellent judgment, financial and business acumen.
- Ensure financial control systems are followed to ensure proper control of expenditures, procurement, and department-controlled revenue.
- Support and implement the inventory processes ensuring invoices are checked and filed correctly.
- Ensure Month End and periodic inventory counts and reconciliation are completed and documented.
- Review with the GM month-end financial reporting and expense control.
Human Resources
- Supervise and support day-to-day activities of the restaurant and coffee bar.
- Assist in the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of Front of House (FOH) personnel to ensure all work is completed on tim.
- Build a cohesive team to achieve an environment of service excellence and inclusiveness while seeking opportunities to enhance Diversity & Inclusion.
- Communicate the Park’s mission, vision and goals to the Gather Craft Kitchen & Bar and The Leaf Coffee Bar.
- Support the GM to ensure all administrative forms are completed and submitted in a timely manner to all employees, including performance reviews, daily timesheets, vacation request forms, and overtime approvals.
- Input payroll information in payroll software, review, ensure accuracy and approve payroll when required.
- Ensure all new hires have a defined training plan and undergone the appropriate orientation and are compliant with all policies and safe work procedures.
- Monitor staff performance and coach staff by conducting regular performance monitoring including providing input to annual performance staff reviews and goal setting for FOH staff.
- Hold regular shift/staff meetings to ensure all staff have current information on business priorities for Gather and park events.
- Ensure compliance with the safety regulations and safe work practices and all applicable corporate policies and restaurant policies and procedures.
- In consultation with Human Resources and senior management, identify and implement progressive discipline measures up to and including termination of employment where required.
- Ensure a respectful workplace including resolving workplace conflict in both inter- and intra-departmental collaboration of subordinate staff.

Required EDUCATION, TRAINING, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Diploma in hospitality/restaurant management preferred; Bachelor’s degree would be an asset.
- Safe Food Handling Certification.
- Smart Choices Certification.
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.
Required EXPERIENCE
- Extensive wine and cocktail knowledge required.
- 2 plus years’ in assisting in the management a fully operational two shift restaurant.
- 4 plus years' supervisory experience in the Hospitality or Restaurant industry.
- Strong working knowledge of restaurant industry principles, methods, practices, and techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams with experience in training, coaching, and mentoring employees.
- Proven ability to maintain a culture of hospitality and positive morale.
- Knowledge of cost analysis, fiscal management, and budgeting techniques.
- Proven communicator both verbally and in writing, and are comfortable conducting presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an energetic, fast-paced and social atmosphere.
- Flexibility to work flexible hours inclusive of evenings and weekends as required.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office along with strong knowledge of Food and Beverage software.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
