POSITION DESCRIPTION – DEPARTMENT OF WELL-BEING
POSITION TITLE: Behaviour Therapy Assistant
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to and works under the direction and clinical supervision of the Registered Behaviour Analyst and the administrative supervision of the Child & Youth Health Team Manager, Department of Well-Being, Six Nations Elected Council.
PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
Implement individualized programming and behaviour support plans for children/youth based upon the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis under the clinical supervision of the Registered Behaviour Analyst.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist RBA during assessments using various methods
- Create individualized programming and materials related to the client’s needs and goals
- Provide direct client care related to skill acquisition and behaviour reduction plans as determined by the supervising RBA
- Collect and record data to be used by the RBA to evaluate client progress and program evaluation
- Establish collaborative relationships with colleagues, families, and community partners
- Provide client/family education and training under the supervision of the RBA
- Assist with in-service education and community educational events
- Participate in program development and accreditation activities
- Assist RBA with discharge planning, development and implementation of client care plans, and client assessments as necessary
- Documentation in electronic medical chart on a daily basis in accordance with the policies and procedures established by Six Nations Department of Well-Being
- Comply with established safety precautions and standards, infection control procedures and aseptic and isolation techniques
- Communications Functions:
- Maintaining/reviewing assigned case files
- Attend staff meetings for Six Nations Maternal and Child & Youth Health Services
- Employ appropriate communication skills when interacting with clients, families and other staff
- Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
- May attend case conferences and clinical rounds with supervising RBA
- Follow procedures for reporting hazardous conditions, unsafe equipment or incidents
- Ensure privacy is maintained in accordance with relevant regulations
- Inform RBA of client progress, changes in client need, etc.
- Administrative Functions:
- Planning weekly itinerary, and completing monthly work reports/statistics as required by:
- Following established report procedures as laid out by the program
- Completing necessary monthly report forms and ensure relevant statistics are maintained as required
- Reviewing department and organization policy and procedure manuals, work plans and job descriptions annually
- Coordinating and scheduling of clinical activities
- Monitor clinic supplies and equipment inventory.
- Performs other job related duties as may reasonably be required by the Maternal Child & Youth Health Team Manager
- Provides support to the Six Nations Emergency Measures Plan by ensuring awareness of the Emergency Measures Plan and assistance as instructed by the Director of the Department of Well-Being
- It is the responsibility of the employee to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to client safety, staff safety and risk management.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Role has a high profile, extensive public contact and is subject to deadlines and interruptions.
- Travel within the community is expected.
- Work location will vary based on client need. Work may occur in office, schools, childcare centers, client homes, and other community locations.
- Work may at times be subject to unscheduled hours.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Minimum Requirements:
- College diploma or Bachelors’s degree in Behavioural Science or a closely related discipline
- Registration with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario if applicable
- Minimum 2 years providing ABA therapy to children/youth with ASD with experience in supporting assessments, treatment planning and monitoring, and parent training preferred
- Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups as a team and experience in providing staff training and consultation
- High level of computer skills – Microsoft Office, MS Word & Excel
- Valid Class “G” license and reliable transportation
Other Related Skills:
- Familiar with the Six Nations Community and services available in the area
- Relate effectively with clients of all ages and their families/caregivers
- Strong organizational skills and able to work independently and work cooperatively with other service providers.
- Registration with the Ontario Association of Behaviour Analysis
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
- Understands the importance of Confidentiality. Ability to work with tact and discretion.
IMPACT OF ERROR:
Errors in judgement and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss credibility, poor public relation, confusion, duplication of effort and misinformation being given to the Director of Health Services, Human Services Committee, Six Nations Elected Council, Government Agencies and the public.
CONTROL:
Guiding principles set by Health Services Department and Six Nations Elected Council. Works within the administrative policies and procedures established by the Six Nations Elected Council for the Health Services Department and other legislation provided by the respective governments.
