The Opportunity
Otter Wise Talent Solutions is proud to partner with a leading Canadian industrial construction organization to recruit an experienced Piping Superintendent – Industrial Construction supporting major industrial projects throughout Canada.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, this position is responsible for leading the execution of industrial piping and mechanical construction scopes on complex projects across the mining, energy, petrochemical, manufacturing, water, infrastructure, and heavy industrial sectors.
The Piping Superintendent will oversee field operations, supervise pipefitting, steamfitting, welding, testing, and mechanical installation activities, coordinate labour and resources, maintain project schedules, and ensure work is completed safely and to the highest standards of quality and workmanship.

Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction Leadership
- Lead field execution of industrial piping and mechanical construction activities from mobilization through project completion.
- Participate in bid reviews, constructability reviews, and project planning activities.
- Review project scope, labour productivity expectations, piping quantities, and construction requirements.
- Develop and manage detailed construction schedules and short-interval look-ahead plans.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project resources.
- Monitor project progress, productivity, cost performance, and schedule milestones.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies in collaboration with the project team.
- Support project change management activities, including scope changes, schedule impacts, and material adjustments.
- Ensure all construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
Piping & Mechanical Operations
- Supervise industrial pipefitting, steamfitting, welding, testing, and mechanical installation activities.
- Lead the installation and assembly of process piping, utility piping, pressure piping, and associated mechanical systems.
- Review and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, specifications, spool drawings, technical documents, and welding procedures.
- Ensure piping systems are installed in accordance with engineering drawings, project specifications, applicable codes, and manufacturer requirements.
- Coordinate pipe fabrication, fit-up, welding, installation, supports, tie-ins, and system completion.
- Ensure proper installation methods are followed for systems involving flow, pressure, and temperature requirements.
- Oversee hydrotesting, leak testing, flushing, inspection, and quality control activities.
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces, equipment connections, and piping tie-ins.
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, turnover, and system handover activities.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of piping installation, system integrity, and constructability challenges.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Promote and maintain a proactive safety-first culture across all site activities.
- Lead toolbox talks, field safety meetings, inspections, and hazard assessments.
- Work closely with Environmental, Health, and Safety teams to enforce site-specific safety programs.
- Ensure compliance with client safety requirements, company policies, and applicable legislation.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure all piping installations meet project specifications and contractual quality standards.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, documentation, and turnover requirements.
- Ensure deficiencies and quality concerns are identified, documented, and resolved promptly.
- Promote continuous improvement across safety, quality, productivity, and field execution.
Leadership & Client Support
- Mentor and develop General Forepersons, Forepersons, Journeypersons, Apprentices, and other field personnel.
- Foster a respectful, collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing work environment.
- Coordinate closely with Project Management, Engineering, Quality, Project Controls, Procurement, and Construction teams.
- Act as the construction lead for piping scopes throughout project execution.
- Interface with clients and stakeholders to provide progress updates and resolve field-related concerns.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Support workforce development through coaching, mentoring, technical guidance, and performance management.
Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of industrial construction experience with a significant focus on piping and mechanical construction scopes.
- Previous experience in a Superintendent, General Foreperson, or senior supervisory position.
- Proven experience overseeing industrial pipefitting, steamfitting, welding, and mechanical construction activities.
- Strong knowledge of industrial piping systems, pressure systems, installation methods, and welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, spool drawings, welding procedures, specifications, and technical documents.
- Experience coordinating hydrotesting, leak testing, flushing, inspection, and commissioning activities.
- Strong understanding of quality control processes and piping inspection requirements.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors, union trades, vendors, and internal project stakeholders.
- Strong planning, scheduling, organizational, and resource-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work fronts in complex and fast-paced project environments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder-management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, inclusion, and operational excellence.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.

- Equivalent combination of trade experience and industrial construction leadership.
- Fly-In/Fly-Out or rotational project experience.
- Experience supervising union and non-union workforces.
- Experience working on large industrial capital projects.
- Experience supporting fabrication, modularization, new construction, maintenance, or turnaround projects.
- Valid driver’s licence.

Work Environment & Travel
- Full-time permanent position supporting industrial construction projects throughout Canada.
- Site-based leadership role requiring travel to project locations.
- Fly-In/Fly-Out and rotational project assignments.
- Typical rotations may include:
- 14 Days On / 7 Days Off
- 10 Days On / 4 Days Off
- Candidates must be willing and able to travel and work on-site based on project requirements.
- Projects may be located across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and other regions of Canada.
- Work may take place in industrial facilities, remote project locations, active construction sites, operating plants, and outdoor environments.
