Healthy Start for Active Kids/NBAFRC

Project Background / Accountability:

  • The Healthy Start for Active Kids (HSAK) is a provincial and bilingual early years’ health promotion initiative, funded in part by the Public Health Agency of Canada the Wellness Branch (Social Development). The project’s goal is to increase opportunities for regular physical activity and healthy eating in early learning and childcare settings, including family resource The Healthy Start / Départ Santé project is delivered in French and in English in New Brunswick.
  • The NBAFRC represents thirteen Family Resource Centres, funded through the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC), and Education & Early Childhood Development (EECD) operate in New Brunswick. They are governed by community Board of Directors. The Centre’s programs cover the province through a network of more than 90 outreach sites, many in isolated rural areas.

Family Resource Centres offer a variety of free programs and activities for parents and their children ages 0 – 6, including drop-ins, parent education and support groups, collective kitchens, prenatal & postnatal nutrition programs, toy and resource-lending libraries and programs to promote parent-child communication and bonding, family literacy and child development and safety.

The Centres work with several partners including Active Kids, HEPAC, literacy, education, and family and health organizations.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively pursue opportunities for sustainability of the Association
  • Proposal/ Grant Writing
  • Promotion of Provincial Family Resource Centre – promo materials, copy writing, website
  • Regular communication with members – i.e. Newsletters (our NLs are quarterly)
  • Facilitation of training of health and wellness workshops (training provided)
  • General Administrative Duties – budgeting. Keeping financial records, translation, planning meetings, taking and sharing minutes
  • Networking – partnership engagement

We are looking for candidates who possess and demonstrate experience in:

  • Director/ Program Management Experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Delivering Training and workshops; Adult education
  • Mandatory travel for provincial/regional delivery of workshops in French and English
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekend as required
  • Strategic thinker, Problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize and plan for detail
  • Goal-oriented individual with sound judgement and integrity, as well as a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization
  • Participative work style with the ability to positively give and receive feedback
  • Proven ability to thrive under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Experience with administrative duties- budgeting, grant writing and reporting
  • Experience with community-based organizations and in engaging community partnerships
  • Health and wellness experience an asset but not essential
  • Bilingualism essential
