Job Profile
Reporting to the Sr. Coordinator, the Contract E/I Commissioning Lead / Planner Role is responsible for Commissioning & Planning strategy as it relates to instrumentation, controls, and electrical (ICE) scope. The E/I Commissioning Planning Role ensures work packages are executed as designed and compliant with codes, standards, and specifications.
Rotation Details:
- Travel days: Coordinated through designated flight or bus hubs depending on site assignment
- Core workdays: Defined by operational shift rotation schedule
- Night shift details: May be required depending on assigned rotation and site needs
Assignment Details:
- Work Type: Fly-In/Fly-Out or bus-in camp-based assignment depending on site
- Accommodation: Full-service camp facilities provided at all locations
- Transportation: Provided from designated hubs (Calgary, Edmonton, La Corey, Lac La Biche depending on site)
- Deviation Clause: Assignment location and rotation may vary based on operational demand across oil sands sites
Position Summary
Role is responsible for Commissioning & Planning strategy as it relates to instrumentation, controls, and electrical (ICE) scope. The E/I Commissioning Planning Role ensures work packages are executed as designed and compliant with codes, standards, and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed work order job plans to support maintenance execution
- Receive and review work notifications, prioritize tasks, and select work based on urgency and schedule requirements
- Develop complete work packages including materials, labour, tools, external services, and cost estimates
- Coordinate required trades, materials, and equipment to support effective job execution
- Support adherence to the work order lifecycle process
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to align planning activities
- Support planning for shutdowns, turnarounds, and outage events
- Track and support performance against KPIs such as backlog, readiness, capacity utilization, and maintenance costs
- Ensure compliance with site procedures, workflows, and standard practices
- Apply knowledge of safe work practices and planning requirements in all activities
Accountabilities
- Accountable for accuracy and completeness of maintenance plans and work packages
- Accountable for aligning planning activities with operational priorities and schedules
- Responsible for ensuring planned work supports safe execution and efficient resource utilization
- Required to follow all site processes, safety procedures, and the Client's standards
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Journeyman Trade Certification
- Minimum 8 years of experience in an industrial environment at the Journeyman level
- Extensive experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Demonstrated commitment to safety standards
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
Assets:
- Experience with Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Experience with turnaround and asset management processes
- Experience using SAP
