The Lead Mechanic / Equipment Manager will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, organizing, and releasing equipment for work. You will also receive equipment back after jobs, identify damage or misuse, arrange repairs, keep the yard organized, and help create a system so equipment is ready before crews leave for site.
You must be more than a parts changer. We need someone who can diagnose problems, prevent breakdowns, fabricate simple solutions, weld, repair, organize, and take ownership of the equipment.
Main Responsibilities
Inspect, maintain, and repair company vehicles, trailers, line striping machines, paint-removal equipment, pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, small engines, and related tools.
Prepare equipment before crews leave for jobs.
Receive and inspect equipment after crews return.
Identify equipment that is ready for work, needs service, or must not be used.
Perform preventive maintenance to reduce emergency breakdowns.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and operational issues.
Repair trailer doors, ramps, hinges, springs, brackets, mounts, and other fabrication-related items.
Perform welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, fitting, and basic fabrication.
Check load securement, trailer condition, ramps, doors, lights, tires, bearings, and safety items.
Organize tools, parts, supplies, equipment areas, and yard layout.
Keep basic records of repairs, service needs, parts required, and equipment status.
Communicate clearly with management about urgent problems, unsafe equipment, and repair priorities.
Help control how crews use, return, clean, and store equipment.
Required Skills
Strong hands-on mechanical ability.
Experience with vehicles, trailers, construction equipment, small engines, pumps, compressors, or similar equipment.
Ability to diagnose problems instead of only replacing parts.
Experience with hydraulic systems, hoses, fittings, pumps, cylinders, or valves.
Experience with pneumatic systems is an asset.
Welding and fabrication ability is strongly preferred.
Ability to use grinders, drills, impact tools, cutting tools, hand tools, measuring tools, and shop equipment.
Ability to organize equipment, tools, parts, and work areas.
Ability to work independently and make practical decisions.
Ability to communicate clearly when equipment is unsafe or not ready.
Valid driver’s licence is strongly preferred.
Experience with road-marking equipment, Graco line striping machines, high-pressure water systems, or paint-removal equipment is an asset but not required.
What We Are Looking For
