Modular Tool Specialist

We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Modular Tool Specialist to add value to our Maintenance Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for repairing, maintaining and modifying nickel tools, special fixtures and related hardware.

Key Roles and Responsibilities will include:

  • Repair class “A” surface defects on nickel tools by proficiently silver soldering and engraving in order to restore the original grained surface
  • Repair class “B” surface defects on nickel tools using silver soldering and/or TIG welding to restore the original surface
  • Repair or replace rigid and flexible oil lines on nickel moulds
  • Construct and assemble mechanical devices or components using standard tool shop equipment
  • Clean shell moulds using vapour hone/ice blast machine in mould shop tooling
  • Shell tools to be vapour honed to a set gloss limit checked by using gloss meter
  • Perform tool changes and minimize production downtime during the process
  • Re-gasket tube sheets, mould boxes, re-silicone nickel to warm panel, rebuild impactors and follow supervisor instruction to maintain each modular unit
  • Maintain vapour hone machine ensuring it is clean and in good working order
  • Ensure no tool damage is done while vapour honing/ice blasting and proper material is in vapour hone machine
  • Responsible for flushing and cleaning vapour hone machine when changing mixture of medium
  • Maintain process parameters for mould equipment within set limits
  • Completion of assigned PM’s by scheduled date
  • Ensure shell moulds are producing a quality part after cleaning

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid welding certificate with knowledge of machine tools or mechanical certificate with welding skills in Oxy-Acetylene and TIG and MIG
  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blue prints, measuring tools and gauges, specifications and charts
  • Two years of experience in a related field
  • Must successfully complete a welding proficiency test
  • Must achieve crane and hoist certification and be able to hold a valid forklift license
  • Must be able to troubleshoot modular units using emergency the work order systems
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, and noise
  • Ability to use considerable judgement to plan and execute the building of new mechanical assemblies and repairs to existing equipment using a variety of tools and procedures
  • Physical ability to move heavy moulds in varying work positions
