ASIAN STUDIES INSTRUCTOR - Competition Number 19-84

Status: One Non-Regular Type 2 (50%) (part-time temporary) position, formal start date January 1, 2020. Location: Surrey, Richmond or Langley.

The Department of Asian Studies at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for one 50% Non-Regular Type 2 (part-time temporary) faculty position. The position involves teaching a minimum of 4 courses (sections) across two semesters, starting on January 1, 2020. The courses will be offered at the Surrey, Richmond, or Langley campuses of KPU.

We are seeking applicants with a Ph.D. (or near completion) in Asian Studies or related fields. The successful applicant will teach an introductory course on Asia, as well as courses in at least two of the following areas:

  • Religions of East Asia
  • Cinema in East Asia (introductory and/or China focus preferred)
  • Folklore of China and Japan
  • Ethnicity in China and Japan
  • Gender in East Asia

This position comes with some expectation of departmental and institutional service.

Asian Studies at KPU is a multi-disciplinary degree program, offering both a BA Major and a Minor. Course delivery formats vary by department and include in-person, online, and blended (partially online) modes of instruction.
