Job Summary
The Maple North Cleaners is hiring a Subcontractor Night Cleaning & Specialized Field Technician for an essential service contract in London and the Old East Village. Operating strictly within the city's right-of-way , you will perform overnight cleaning to resolve critical public health, and safety challenges before morning business hours.
This role involves entirely outdoor, overnight shifts (typically 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM) 5-7 days a week depending on the job needs. You will routinely handle biohazards, needle sharps, encampment debris, and human waste. Strict adherence to health and safety protocols and mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
Responsibilities
- Removal of garbage, bagged waste, litter, debris, and bulk items.
- Removal of encampment-related materials.
- Collection and disposal of sharps and biohazards
- Cleanup of fire-related debris
- Removal of human waste where encountered
- Power washing of affected areas
- Sorting of recyclable materials in accordance with City standards
All work shall be completed from curb to storefront/property line and must follow City-provided operational routes or “beat” maps.. No work on private property is included.
Requirements
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in municipal high-risk commercial cleanup, industrial waste management, or emergency restoration. Candidate must demonstrate proof that they have delivered at least candidate has experience delivering similar municipal cleaning / high-risk public realm services. Experience with Encampments, Biohazards / sharps, downtown or dense urban environment is required.
- Certifications & Training: Demonstrated formal training in Hazardous Materials Handling (WHMIS), Biohazard Response, or Sharps Disposal. Adhere to OH&S Policies and PPE protocols.
- Technical & Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent communication skills to keep operation running effectively. Ability to use basic smartphone apps for nightly route reporting and maintain live, professional contact with supervisors during operations. Use of digital tools/ tracking tools.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs consistently, walk long outdoor routes continuously in variable Canadian weather (rain, cold, heat), and stand for the duration of a 6-hour overnight shift for 5-7 days a week.
- Safety & Compliance Mindset: Unwavering commitment to Occupational Health and Safety legislation, with absolute compliance regarding proper PPE use and zero entry onto private property.
- Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work a flexible 5-day to 7-day operational model, including weekends and holidays, and adjust hours to accommodate seasonal demands or downtown special events. Be able to have emergency response time of 1 hr as needed..
- Equipment: Must have a pickup truck (optional to have vaccum truck) to safely transport the waste. Must have power washing unit and containers for sharp materials for cleaning duties on site. Must have appropriate PPE to safely manover on site.
- Legal & Licensing: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. A valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G) and a clean driving record are strong assets for operating company fleet vehicles.
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
