About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Regulated Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) to join our community pharmacy team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations while ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory standards, pharmacy policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
This position is ideal for an experienced RPhT who is confident in managing workflow, overseeing daily operational activities, coordinating support staff duties, and maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professional practice.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy Operations & Workflow Management
- Manage and coordinate daily pharmacy operations to ensure efficient workflow and timely prescription processing.
- Oversee prescription preparation and final technical checks in accordance with regulatory requirements and pharmacy policies.
- Monitor prescription queues and workflow priorities to maintain optimal service levels.
- Ensure all pharmacy activities comply with provincial regulatory standards, pharmacy legislation, and company policies.
- Identify workflow challenges and implement operational improvements where appropriate.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure strict adherence to all pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain accurate and complete pharmacy records and documentation.
- Support inventory control processes, including narcotic and controlled substance management, documentation, reconciliation, and reporting requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, incident reporting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and patient safety standards.
Team Leadership & Staff Coordination
- Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to pharmacy assistants based on workflow needs.
- Monitor completion of assigned duties and ensure accountability among support staff.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to pharmacy assistants regarding operational procedures and best practices.
- Assist in onboarding and mentoring new pharmacy support staff.
- Promote a collaborative, professional, and patient-focused work environment.
Inventory & Operational Responsibilities
- Oversee medication inventory management, ordering, receiving, and stock rotation.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment to minimize shortages and wastage.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of medications in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate management of expired medications, recalls, and inventory discrepancies.
Daily Operational Oversight
- Ensure all opening, closing, and daily operational duties are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Verify completion of assigned daily, weekly, and monthly pharmacy tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy environment.
- Support continuous operational efficiency and patient service excellence.
Qualifications
Required
- Active registration and good standing as a Regulated Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) with the applicable provincial regulatory authority.
- Minimum 2–3 years of community pharmacy experience as a regulated pharmacy technician.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy legislation, standards of practice, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage workflow and coordinate support staff.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
Preferred
- Experience with pharmacy management software systems.
- Previous experience leading workflow or supervising pharmacy support staff.
- Experience with inventory management and quality assurance processes.
