Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer

Position Summary
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer is responsible for supporting and maintaining the company’s health, safety, environmental, and compliance programs across shop, field, and customer site operations. This role promotes a proactive safety culture by ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, COR standards, customer compliance platforms, and company policies while supporting operational teams through training, inspections, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and support a strong safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, and employee engagement.
- Conduct employee and subcontractor orientations, safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site-specific training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with provincial OH&S legislation, company policies, and customer safety requirements.
- Perform regular worksite inspections, hazard assessments, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage WCB claims administration, modified work programs, and return-to-work coordination.
- Maintain COR program requirements and support internal and external COR audits.
- Administer contractor compliance platforms including ISNetworld, Avetta, ComplyWorks, and SafeContractor.
- Maintain safety documentation including SDS libraries, training records, equipment certifications, inspection reports, and safety statistics.
- Coordinate and track employee training, certifications, and company training matrix requirements.
- Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and prepare reports for management.
- Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, inspections, and corrective action follow-up.
- Collaborate with operations, supervisors, and employees to identify risks and improve safe work practices.
- Attend field locations and customer sites as required to support operational safety and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent safety designation preferred.
- COR Auditor certification and/or Auditor Training Program (ATP) certification considered an asset.
- Minimum 3–5 years of HSE experience within heavy equipment, construction, mining, industrial, or related environments.
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta and British Columbia occupational health & safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Experience managing WCB/WorkSafe BC claims, incident investigations, and return-to-work programs.
- Experience with contractor management and compliance systems such as ISNetworld, Avetta, SafeContractor, and ComplyWorks is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Working Conditions
This position requires occasional travel to customer and branch locations, including shop and field environments. The HSE Officer may be required to attend active construction, industrial, or equipment service sites and must adhere to all applicable safety requirements and PPE standards.

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
