Our client, a leading Canadian fresh produce distribution and supply chain organization, is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its growing Finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where finance plays a critical role in operational success. Reporting to the Senior VP & CFO, you will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, support financial reporting, inventory costing, budgeting, and internal controls while partnering closely with operations, procurement, warehouse, and category management teams.

What You'll Do
- Oversee daily accounting operations including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain inventory accounting, including valuation, cost allocations, shrink, spoilage, and inventory reconciliations.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Analyze Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), inventory variances, and gross margin trends.
- Partner with Procurement, Warehouse, Operations, and Category Management to ensure accurate inventory costing and invoice reconciliation.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and operational reporting.
- Prepare financial reports and provide insights to senior leadership.
- Maintain strong internal controls and support internal and external audits.
- Recommend and implement improvements to accounting processes, reporting, and ERP systems.
- Mentor and support accounting staff while promoting continuous improvement across the finance team.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA designation (or actively pursuing CPA) is strongly preferred.
- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience within produce, food distribution, CPG, manufacturing, warehousing, or inventory-intensive industries is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, GAAP, and internal controls.
- Experience with inventory accounting, costing, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency with ERP systems such as Great Plains, SAP, NetSuite, or similar.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy.

Pay: $110,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
