About the Position:
Ceridian is looking for a self-starting, highly motivated Product Design Leader (Sr Manager to Director level) to help us evolve our design practice, improve quality, and scale our team.
Design at Ceridian is transforming from a legacy approach to “enterprise software” to a contemporary, user- and human-centered practice, recognizing that even HR and workforce management tools should look and work more like consumer software. At the heart of this transformation are Product Design Leaders, leading teams of Product Designers in the evolution of our product experiences, ensuring that users remain at the heart of all decisions, and continually improving the quality of what we make.
Additionally, Product Design Leaders look after the people in their team, through mentorship, professional development, and career-building. Leaders are also on the front-line of recruiting and hiring, crucial at this time as Ceridian plans significant (at least 2x) growth in 2021.
Given the scale and potential for impact, this role is for people with leadership experience who can bring their proven practices to assist this transformation. We’re looking for a leader with a strong diplomatic bent, using their relationship skills to bring non-designers into the work, and uphold the values and quality standards in a stakeholder-rich environment.
New leaders have broad and deep organizational support to make these needed changes. Ceridian has new senior leadership throughout product development that are hungry for smart user-centered practices, active product discovery, and establishing a threshold for quality. This role has advocates in high places.
All the people management for a team of Product Designers, including 1:1s, professional development, performance reviews, etc.
Recruit and hire product designers, UX researchers, content designers, and design operations folks
Lead the creative efforts for your team, establishing a vision for where the work is headed, and establishing a shared understanding of quality
Seamlessly shift between big picture strategy and the most minute details of delivery, connecting efforts at all levels of abstraction
Uphold quality standards in the face of myriad pressures such as timelines, feedback, and workloads. Say, “No,” in a way that invites further discussion of how we can all get to “Yes.”
Partner with cross-functional peers in product management, engineering, data, to plan the best approaches for delivery of quality user experiences
Keep designers (and cross-functional peers) focused on the product and business objectives, ensuring relevance in their work
Ensure that your team maintains focus on their work, avoiding disruption and distraction
Prior experience with managing teams of at least 5 people
Passionate advocate of putting our users at the heart of the work
Success at bringing a range of people into the research and design process, including cross-functional partners (product managers, designers, developers, marketers), and successfully engaging stakeholders and executives
Experience leading teams that shipped complicated product(multiple user types, feature complexity)that has made clear positive impact on its users
Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, clearly articulating the rationale behind design decisions
We’re not looking for an MBA, but we do seek someone comfortable with the language of business, who can tie design team effort to product and business strategy
Orderly and organized, maintaining multiple conversation threads across product teams
Comfortable with structuring and planning design work in cross-functional contexts
Eager mentor and capable educator, driven to spread methodological understanding throughout the broader team
