The College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, is seeking applications from outstanding candidates for one tenured or probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The College of Nursing invites applications for this position from candidates that have expertise in health systems, health policy, global health, or related fields. This position is for nurse and non-nurse scholars whose work advances nursing-relevant knowledge through interdisciplinary, systems-level, population, or global perspectives.
The successful candidate will contribute to the College’s mission through research, teaching, and service that strengthen health systems, address health inequities, and improve population and global health outcomes. College of Nursing Profile:
The College of Nursing is one of six colleges within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences (RFHS) at the University of Manitoba. The College of Nursing offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. The Bachelor of Nursing (BN) program is a concept-based curriculum with the integration of leading-edge simulation learning and virtual reality. The BN program is also delivered in partnership with the University College of the North in The Pas and Thompson. The Bachelor of Midwifery program resides under the College of Nursing. The Mahkwa omushki kiim (Pathway to Indigenous Nursing Education) provides undergraduate students with Indigenous ancestry with academic and personal supports to facilitate success.
At the graduate level, the College of Nursing offers a Master’s Program with four streams, including Nurse Practitioner (NP), administration, education and clinical practice streams. The Nurse Practitioner program is approved through the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba and is one of the first NP programs in Canada to be accredited through the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing. In addition, the College offers a PhD Program in Nursing.
The Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research (MCNHR) is a research unit within the College of Nursing. The MCNHR is the only research centre in Manitoba that is solely dedicated to facilitating and supporting collaborative nursing and health research. The College has clinical practice and research links with other universities nationally and with several research institutes in Manitoba. We are proud of our four Research Chairs: a Canada Research Chair in Child and Family Engagement in Health Research and Healthcare; a Health Sciences Centre Clinical Chair; a Riverview Health Centre Research Chair in Person-Directed Living; and a Mindermar Professor in Human Simulation, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR
The scholar is expected to maintain an active program of externally funded research, contribute to teaching and mentoring, support knowledge translation, and sustain meaningful engagement in health systems that informs scholarly work.
The successful candidate will carry out independent research, as well as collaborate effectively in research teams. Evidence of the required level of research activity and scholarship may include an established independent research program that goes beyond the work of their PhD degree; the impact, quality, originality and number of publications; a track record of research funding; the amount and quality of research in collaboration with external partners; and mentorship of colleagues to increase their research skills and outputs.
The successful candidate will provide leadership in service to the College, University, and professional/academic communities, committees and activities; and where relevant, practice in an area of clinical expertise as required.
The candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to knowledge translation and mobilization, ensuring that research is co-developed with patients, communities, and health system partners, and that findings are implemented in practice and policy contexts.
The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, with a focus on building research capacity among students and clinicians. They will supervise graduate students and postdoctoral trainees, particularly clinically embedded or practice-based research, and serve on graduate committees as required.
Qualifications:
- A PhD in Nursing or a related health discipline, an established research record in health care including several peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated ability to obtain competitive research grants and establish research networks.
- There must be evidence of a capacity to build and maintain strong relationships through all levels of professional engagement with partner organizations and demonstrated ability to supervise research students and research projects.
- A proven track record of excellence in teaching, course development and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Applicants for Associate and Full Professor must have evidence of a well-developed and established program of research in a particular health-related area, current, competitive national grant funding, strong publications track record, and an established national reputation.
- The applicant will possess strong communication skills, clinical expertise as relevant, and the ability to establish collegial relationships.
