Secured Building Maintenance is currently seeking reliable and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as On-Call Heavy Duty Cleaners. This position is governed by the applicable Collective Agreement and is subject to its terms and conditions, including wages, scheduling, seniority, and benefits eligibility.
Position Summary: The On-Call Heavy Duty Cleaner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in assigned facilities. This role is scheduled on an as-needed basis to cover absences, vacancies, or operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform heavy cleaning tasks in assigned areas, including floors, walls, ceilings, windows, and fixtures.
- Strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment.
- Scrub, mop, sweep, and vacuum all designated areas.
- Clean and sanitize washrooms, showers, locker rooms, kitchens, and other high-use spaces.
- Remove garbage, recycling, and waste materials from all assigned areas.
- Clean and disinfect touchpoints, surfaces, and high-traffic areas.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as floor machines, buffers, and vacuums as required.
- Refill supplies such as paper products, soap, and cleaning materials.
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and supply shortages to the supervisor.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, WHMIS requirements, and company policies.
- Move furniture, equipment, or other items as needed to complete cleaning duties.
- Carry out periodic deep cleaning and detail cleaning tasks.
- Respond to spill cleanup and urgent cleaning requests when required.
- Work independently or as part of a team to meet service standards.
Qualifications:
- Previous cleaning experience is an asset but not required
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions
- Good communication skills in English (additional languages considered an asset)
- Physically capable of performing light-duty cleaning tasks
- Availability to accept on-call shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Union and Scheduling Information:
- This is a unionized position and subject to the terms of the Collective Agreement
- Shifts will be offered based on operational needs and in accordance with seniority provisions
- Wages and working conditions will be in accordance with the current Collective Agreement
Requirements:
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
- Successful completion of any required background checks or site-specific clearances
