Purpose
The Site Supervisor is a field leadership role responsible for coordinating and overseeing day-to-day site activities on Hydro Tech projects.
This position will be filled by an individual who has demonstrated strong leadership, technical competency, and the ability to direct crews in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner. Candidates may come from skilled trades, technical, operational, supervisory, engineering, or other relevant industry backgrounds with experience supporting complex field or industrial work environments.
The Site Supervisor acts as the primary on-site lead, ensuring work is executed in alignment with project scope, schedule, safety requirements, and quality standards while maintaining productive working relationships with union crews, subcontractors, and management.
Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Crew Coordination
- Lead, direct, and support unionized field crews in daily operations
- Assign tasks based on crew capabilities, certifications, and project priorities
- Monitor productivity and ensure efficient use of labour, materials, and equipment
- Foster a respectful, professional, and collaborative work environment
- Provide on-the-job guidance, mentorship, and informal training to crew members
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
Enforce all applicable safety legislation, including:
- Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Occupational Safety and Health Act (for U.S. projects)
- Ensure compliance with Hydro Tech HSE policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Conduct daily tailboards/toolbox talks and hazard assessments
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safety equipment
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions immediately
- Participate in incident investigations and reporting
Project Execution & Coordination
- Execute work in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and scope requirements
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, and internal stakeholders
- Support planning and sequencing of work to meet project timelines
- Identify and escalate risks related to scope, schedule, or cost
- Assist in resolving field-level technical and operational challenges
Quality Control & Workmanship
- Ensure all work meets Hydro Tech quality standards and client expectations
- Verify installations and work activities align with engineering drawings and specifications
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions
- Support inspections, testing, and commissioning activities
Subcontractor & Contractor Coordination
- Coordinate subcontractor activities on site
- Ensure subcontractors meet safety, quality, and contractual requirements
- Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance
- Communicate expectations clearly and address issues promptly
Documentation & Reporting
Complete and maintain accurate site documentation, including:
- Daily reports
- Safety documentation
- Labour and equipment tracking
- Provide regular updates to Project Managers on site progress
- Document issues, delays, and changes in scope
Labour Relations & Collective Agreement Compliance
- Operate within the terms of the applicable Collective Agreement
- Maintain productive working relationships with union representatives and crew members
- Ensure fair and consistent application of work assignments and practices
- Escalate labour concerns or disputes to management as required
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Relevant trade certification, technical education, engineering background, supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience considered an asset
- Significant field experience in construction, industrial, hydroelectric, mechanical, manufacturing, energy, or related heavy industrial environments
- Demonstrated leadership, crew coordination, or supervisory experience within unionized, industrial, or project-based work environments
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Solid understanding of construction processes and field execution
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documents
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Working knowledge of safety regulations and best practices
Certifications
- Relevant trade, technical, operational, engineering, supervisory, or industry-recognized certifications, designations, or qualifications (as applicable to the role and experience of the successful candidate)
- Health & Safety training and certifications relevant to the work environment (e.g., Working at Heights, Confined Space, First Aid, LOTO, Hoisting & Rigging)
- Additional client-, site-, or project-specific training and certifications as required
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily on active construction or industrial sites
- Exposure to physical labour, varying weather conditions, and operational hazards
- Travel to project sites may be required (including remote locations)
- Overtime and extended hours may be required based on project demands
Authority & Decision-Making
- Directs daily work activities of assigned crews
- Makes field-level decisions related to sequencing, safety, and execution
- Escalates contractual, financial, or high-risk issues to Project Management

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Niagara Falls, ON
