Position Summary
The Engine Rebuild Technician is responsible for the systematic disassembly, inspection, diagnostics, and precise reassembly of automotive engines within our specialized power generation shop. This role requires an analytical, detail-oriented individual with a strong mechanical aptitude and an absolute commitment to quality control and component tolerances. Whether you are an experienced mechanic or a highly motivated individual with a strong baseline of heavy mechanical skills, this position offers the opportunity to work on complex industrial builds within a structured, safety-first production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Rebuilding & Assembly

Disassemble, clean, inspect, measure, and rebuild engines and sub-assemblies in strict accordance with OEM manufacturer specifications and Upstream Data quality standards.

Safely operate pneumatic tools, impact guns, overhead cranes, and specialized pulling or measuring equipment to avoid damaging high-value internal cores.

Prepare, clean, and degrease engine components using parts washers or hot tanks prior to final inspection and reassembly.
Diagnostics & Preventative Maintenance

Troubleshoot and diagnose engine failures or mechanical deficiencies, determining the most efficient and cost-effective course of action for repairs.

Perform routine preventative maintenance, component replacements, and quality testing on engines and related equipment.

Maintain clean, organized parts baskets and ensure precise documentation of all clearances, work performed, and components used.
Shop Support & Continuous Improvement

Collaborate cross-functionally with welders, fabricators, and parts leads to maintain an efficient production workflow and meet kitting deadlines.

Participate actively in shop continuous improvement initiatives to maintain an organized, debris-free, and professional bay environment.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance

Conduct all daily operations in strict compliance with relevant industry safe work practices and Alberta OHS legislation.

Maintain and keep current all required safety tickets and certifications for workshop and potential field-based tasks.
Qualifications & Skills

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Previous practical experience in engine rebuilding, heavy equipment repair, automotive mechanical service, or a closely related mechanical deconstruction role is preferred.

Proven ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manuals, mechanical schematics, and blueprint specifications.

Strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail regarding engine tolerances and component sorting.

Self-motivated, collaborative, positive attitude, and a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new production challenges.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Based entirely on-site in an active industrial manufacturing shop floor. Expect regular exposure to standard workshop elements including lubricants, solvents, ambient noise, and moving mechanical equipment.

Highly physically demanding role requiring standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, and lifting heavy objects up to standard safety thresholds. Consistently requires the use of standard PPE (safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, and hearing protection).
