Job Summary:
We are seeking a responsible and dedicated High School Math Tutor for the 2026-2027 school year to inspire and support students in mastering mathematical concepts. This independent contractor position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ academic journeys. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching, strong math skills, and experience working with students, creating an engaging learning environment that encourages growth and success.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver one-on-one tutoring sessions focused on high school-level math courses: Grade 9 (De-streamed), Grade 10 (Applied/Academic), Grade 11 (College/Mixed/University), Grade 12 (College/University). Ability to tutor Grade 12 Data Management and/or Grade 12 Calculus & Vectors is considered a strong asset
- Assess students’ current understanding and tailor sessions to meet their individual learning needs
- Use effective teaching strategies to explain complex concepts clearly and confidently
- Track student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to students and parents or guardians
- Create a positive, motivating atmosphere that encourages student engagement, curiosity, and perseverance
Requirements:
- Experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably as a tutor, teacher, leader, counsellor, or mentor
- Strong background in mathematics at the high school level or higher, with the ability to explain concepts clearly
- Previous classroom experience or familiarity with teaching methods is highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills and patience to support diverse learning styles
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with video conferencing software (Zoom) and online learning tools
- Knowledge of special education strategies is a plus for supporting students with unique learning needs
