Job Description
QSP is seeking a highly skilled CAD Technician/Drafter for full-time remote work. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, technically strong, and committed to producing high-quality utility design drawings. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of drafting and design tasks, including topographic drawing creation, as-built drawings, and construction design packages.
Responsibilities
- Utilize advanced CADD skills to create detailed utility drawings using Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Prepare comprehensive TOPO/land base drawings using GPS points and surveyed field data.
- Produce accurate as-built, construction, and design drawings for utility projects.
- Collaborate with project coordinators, planners, engineers, and field staff.
- Participate in project meetings using Microsoft Teams and maintain ongoing communication.
- Mentor junior drafters and support skill development across the team.
- Maintain detailed documentation of revisions, specifications, and project notes.
- Oversee quality control of drawings to ensure compliance with QSP and industry standards.
- Stay current with emerging CADD technologies and industry design methodologies.
- Create isometric and/or 3D piping drawings with strong understanding of system layouts.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and transformations.
- Perform stakeout and layout calculations to support field crews.
- Generate topographic profiles and crossing profiles (MTO, water, railway, foreign pipeline).
- Revise drawings based on QC, planner, engineer, or client feedback.
- Adhere to QSP policies, guides, and safety-related procedures.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of CAD drafting experience within the utility industry.
- Strong proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Experience with Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and ProjectWise is considered an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Knowledge & Assets
- Experience with pipeline, gas, electric, or telecom utility design.
- Experience drafting as‑built drawings and construction packages.
- Familiarity with GIS, GPS data, or survey workflows.
- Knowledge of MTO, municipal, and utility design standards.
- Experience collaborating with field teams or interpreting field‑collected data.
