Student, Platform Engineering
Pairenthesis | Toronto, ON (Hybrid) | Student Internship / Co-op
About the Role
You will work alongside the founding engineering team to build and ship features on a production platform that is actively used by a federal government department. This is not a sandbox. Your code will go into production. You will learn how sovereign cloud infrastructure works, how deterministic compute systems are built, and how to ship software in a regulated environment where every output must be auditable.
What You'll Do
- Build and ship frontend and backend features under the guidance of senior engineers
- Write and maintain automated tests for the deterministic compute pipeline
- Assist with data ingestion workflows: schema validation, outlier detection, source mapping
- Contribute to the platform's bilingual (EN/FR) interface where applicable
- Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions
- Help maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes on AWS
- Document technical decisions and contribute to internal engineering knowledge base
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- Proficiency in at least one of: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go
- Familiarity with web frameworks (React, Next.js, Flask, FastAPI, or similar)
- Basic understanding of databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar)
- Comfort with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Genuine curiosity about AI systems, data infrastructure, or cloud architecture
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or co-op in a software engineering role
- Experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, Lambda, RDS)
- Exposure to data pipelines, ETL processes, or analytics infrastructure
- Interest in AI/ML — coursework, personal projects, or research experience
- Bilingual English/French (an asset, not a requirement for this role)
Why This Role
You will ship code that federal analysts use. You will learn what it means to build software where every computation must be reconstructable and every output must be defensible. If you want an internship that teaches you how real infrastructure is built, apply.
