Job Description – Finance Manager
SummaryThe Finance Manager leads the finance team and is accountable for all aspects of its work. The role provides leadership across all areas of finance and contributes to a team of experienced professionals delivering a broad range of personalized business services and leadership support to Canlead clients, including financial management, claims administration, and federal and provincial financial reporting. The Finance Manager is responsible for ensuring that financial activities are carried out efficiently while maintaining accountability to members and clients.
The Finance Manager is accountable for the delivery of financial management services for both Canlead and assigned client organizations. The role leads a team of finance professionals and serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, boards of directors, and client organizations, ensuring strong financial stewardship, compliance, and operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting
- Responsible for the integrity of information in the Canlead accounting system
- Coordinate and prepare the annual operations budget and accompanying notes
- Manage the operations budget and update monthly forecasted financials for the senior leadership team and board
- Responsible for banking, including managing cash flow and bank accounts, credit cards, and online banking administration
- Ensure adequate accounting practices and procedures are in place to provide necessary levels of accountability in all financial aspects of the organization
- Prepare and file all necessary government returns, including HST, T4, T4A, WSIB, and EHT
- Coordinate the annual year-end financial statement preparation and audit process with Canlead’s external auditors
Human Resources Administration• Administer and process bi-weekly payroll for employees and Directors, including RRSP contributions and related payroll reporting.
- Maintain and ensure the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of employee information within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
- Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding activities, including documentation, system access, benefits enrollment, and payroll setup.
- Administer employee benefits programs and support attendance, leave, and time-tracking processes.
- Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with applicable employment standards, payroll, and privacy requirements.
- Serve as the primary internal contact for routine employee administrative inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and HR systems.
- Liaise with the organization's external HR consultant regarding employee relations matters, policy administration, compliance requirements, and other HR initiatives.
- Support management with the implementation and administration of HR policies, procedures, and employee programs.
- Assist with HR reporting, workforce metrics, and documentation as required.
Leadership & Team Development• Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance management to members of the finance team.
- Establish team priorities, allocate workload, and monitor performance against organizational objectives.
- Support employee development through training, coaching, and succession planning initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and client service excellence.
Canlead Client work
- The Finance Manager will be assigned to Canlead Solution clients to service contractual obligations. This may involve work at the client location(s), the assignments may vary from time to time in terms of assignments to various clients and client needs, and the time commitment required may vary over time. Such assignments may be frequent or infrequent as business needs arise during the course of employment. Flexibility to undertake and complete such assignments is required.
- Serve as the designated Finance Manager for assigned client organizations.
- Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to client executives, leadership teams, boards of directors, and finance personnel.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, and year-end audit processes for client organizations.
- Present financial information and recommendations to client boards, committees, and leadership teams.
- Review and approve government claims, funding reports, and other financial deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with funding agreements, regulatory requirements, and reporting obligations.
- Oversee client payroll, government remittances, and financial administration functions.
- Support operational and strategic initiatives as required by client organizations.
Job Requirements• CPA designation in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive financial management experience.
- Experience leading teams and managing multiple priorities in a consulting or shared-services environment.
- Experience supporting Boards of Directors and Board Committees.
- Experience with payroll administration and HRIS systems.
- Experience in not-for-profit, charitable, or publicly funded organizations is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel periodically to client locations throughout Ontario as required.
- Experience working with and implementing AI and automation systems would be an asset
- Experience working in a multi client environment would be an asset
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, Sage 300, Quickbooks Online, and payroll systems
